Title: New Updated Pixs of 67 Eyebrow Decklid Paint Match Fun....
Post by: rick m on September 19, 2010, 04:30:48 am
Finally have the rear apron close and ready for primer.  A lot of fitting, refitting, shrinking, stretching, yada, yada.  I did not like how the first apron turned out an the metal gauge was to light at 20 gauge. So, I made another apron for it out of .035. The second one is more stout and I won't worry about the metal bending or getting distorted when I finish my final shrinking and filing the bare metal.

Also took about 4 rounds of paint matching to get the color sorta close. Paint is around 8-10 years old from what I understand. So, always a bear to get paint matched.

I wanted the rear apron, heat shield (on back of apron) and the side panels (in the engine compartment next to the heads) all removable.  So, taking a lot longer than planned but will be worth it in the long haul.

Hope to have everything primed, blocked, sealer shot and painted this next weekend.  Then the 2275 final fit and assembly gets finished up and in she goes in just in time for the GOODGUYS show here in Arizona in Mid November.

Here are a couple more shots of the decklid from a different angle.  The shadows are just the primer.  The deck lid is very straight.

Thanks for posting the pictures.  I'm going to add eyebrows to my Cal-Looker this winter, just trying to determine the best position.  Would like to clear the IDA stacks with the lid closed...

I'm actually running short BERG IDA manifolds and the carbs will clear the decklid. I did it to give more air flow to the engine compartment for the motor needs. I like the look of the eyebrows as they remind me of the early gasser decklids. I had a certain look I wanted to achieve with the chop top look.

Thanks Dan.  Not probably up to your level but for someone who has not messed with it for years...I am happy with it. Trying to get myself back up to speed on my metal work. The next project is a major bus body conversion. I will keeep you copied on progress.  I am changing a lot of stuff on a late model...Will be unique.

Almost have the heat deflector shield ready to mount on the back side of the Cal Look 67 apron. It is also made to be removable kinda like Danny Gabbard did one of his. Should have some shots to post of the primered rear apron and the heat shield by Saturday.  Paint shop is readying my paint match for the parts. With some luck will have the body color shot, fenders back on and the body work completed by next week...then comes the IDA Motor after a breakin on my test stand.
