Wow! I just received news that a crew hired by the SCC team is working on the construction of a new fjord near Gardermoen, that is to be completed in time for SCC 2011.

This is sure to bring VW enthusiast and  tourists in the area to SCC next year. Excellent work, guys! ;D

But the "188cm (six feet)" in the article is not true.

6 feet was last year!, but we have 10cm and have to close our airports.  It just goes to show our little cost cutting on infrastructure over the years is catching up with us.  This is the 3rd winter in a row that GB has been unable to cope.  In Scotland and up North they need to make people buy snow chains, it always snows and its always a lot.  In the rest of the uk, they need snow ploughs!  Rant over.

Don't get me started dude - I am in norway right now and there is a foot of snow outside and its -15 and everything is still working  :o

people in the uk still driving around on 5yr old bald "summer" tires and wondering why they can't get anywhere  :D :D :D :D

Totally agree dude - people in the UK just don't get it, like the guy said when it gets down to 7deg then you NEED winter tires - I have them on my golf in the UK and people keep asking me WHY???  ::)

hey guys we fly on friday to scc. we want to book the the hotel near airport. but can we get a rental car some where or a beetle with big engine? to pendel back and forward to the event?

if you book the official hotel, you get free SCC taxi rides.

we booked that hotel. also at 4 oçlock at night?

You can rent a car at the airport, several companies there.
We are currently working on the SCC taxi solution, and there will probably be a firm schedule for the SCC taxi this year. But if you want to go to the hotel at 4 o`clock in the night, you must call a local cab or have your own car ;)

hey guys, we just booked our flights. we will be in oslo from thursday 18th till tuesday 23rd, staying at the airport hotel.
So we have some extra time to visit oslo and countryside. do you have any tips what we have to see? cultural, landscape,...?

Ive just arrived in London and hope to buy a bike this or next week and then will probably set off by about the end of July.
Probably will stop in to see Amsterdam and maybe Stockholm or Copenhagen on the way.
Any advice on good A roads on my route ?

Oh, sounds like you have a really nice journey coming up.

My suggestion;

Amsterdam - Copenhagen and then drive up Denmark and take the ferry to Kristiansand / Norway. When in Kristiansand you have two choices:

1) Drive directly to Oslo (around 5 hours)
2) The scenic route, instead of directly to Oslo from Kristiandsand you go west toward Stavanger. Kristansand - Stavanger is approx 3 hours. In Stavanger you drive to Lysebotn then over the mountains to Oslo. This is a very nice route and usually without much traffic. As a matter of fact the Top Gear guys consider it the one of the best drives in the world after doing the same trip earlier this year.

After 2,5 great and beautiful weeks in Norway we are heading for the SCC.
We are now in Lillehammer and will probably  arrive on Thursday at Gardermoen.

Excellent, he arrives 20.00 Friday evening. Not sure about the flight details and he didnt have a clue. Cowboys isnt very used to flying I guess.. and his secretary (read wife) booked the flight. He thinks she might have a affair but decided what the heck  :D

Can't make it this year, got the builders coming on Monday to knock the wall down between the kitchen and dinning room.  Spent today ripping the ceiling down and getting covered in 80 years of dirt!  Electrician coming tomorrow to move light switches etc, then the plasterer is coming on Tuesday.  So you can see i have my hands full.  Hope everybody enjoys themselves and the sun shines.  May you leave your shoes behind on the stickiest track in Europe.

Unfortunately we had there also something extra to do with my Ghia...

The Ghias story: i sold my -51 beetle because i had lost the deepest feeling to develope it more. Then it was time for rally and circuitrace. Rally went ok, result was to lead the rallyserie, circuitrace also went ok = BMW:s were behind. I bought some Ghias here and there and good RLR cromolygate for Ghia. Then i found back one Finnish full cromolygate which i owned before and that opened the idea. I sold the RLR gate and planned while the car waited in the snow and engine/gbox were in carage all the winter + then spring +all summer. Idea was to have car ready in VW-OPEN, then turbotown-race then the last chance was SCC. Then came summer, then holidays, then was only  2 weeks left to SCC. Nothing has happened to Ghia..Only some pictures in internet. 8.8. Monday i said my friend that now it  is the time to do something, so i collected the parts for frontaxle behind the carage. tuesday 9.8. finally we started the work! Then it was cutting, welding, plasma-work + everything possible. I had the plan for 4-links, then changed idea to ladders and finally back to swing-plan...On the weekend we had done lot of work but there  was lot of work to do, then i wanted to go back to my first idea: it must be a lowlight. We cutted the ready-fitted -65 body in 4pieces and carried it out and again we started from allmost zero. Again plasma + cutting + more welding. The time was running out and we worked last wednesday to thursday me and Konna with no sleep. In the afternoon i said to my team that now it is time to leave the carage. We packed lot of parts + aluminium etc and finally got to the ferry just 12 minutes before it left from Helsinki. (50minutes we drove to ferry from carage)

Then SOME finishing work at SCC to get it on inspection. I had no racecard for the car, because it just havent been in race before SCC, old streetpapers i had, but they thought it had something still missing for the streetuse(lampwires, sidewindows etc) But jury discussed of the matter and found it so safe that i got a permission to do test. We were talking of some 3-4 passes with only hard 60ft. I had no wheeliebars for the car and i knew the power of my 2.9 type 4, so i took carefully and tested only that it goes straight and the gears will go on. The car has gone not a meter in this shape before in SCC. It felt easy and was good to drive but when i came back from track to next start on sunday, suddenly they said that  i drove too fast! and the testing will be over... I  was amazed, i only putted little rpm and lifted pedal early just to roll over the finish-line by dropping the speed all the time. I think  12.7s was nothing for this car. But the boss of the boss kept his mind and i putted Ghia on trailer. It also started rain so i lost only maybe 1-3 starts more.

Most important was to be there in SCC and do little test, now we will put wheeliebars(THANKS to STIAN who gave me those!!!)   on the car and go Alastaro this saturday on Finnish VW-clubs raceday, next year there will be 2 days in ALASTARO FVWA 30 years anniversary!!


I would like to give DEEP THANKS to  these guys who helped me with the project -all on their best skills, in this timetable it hasnt been possible to join SCC without their great help!

we only just got back after our 2 week adventure so will do a full summary later.but just want to say thanks to a few people,

1st all the people that gave up there time to plan,organise and run the event,despit natures best efforts to ruin things you did a great job and kept things running really well,this is the 4th time we have attended SCC and you see the improvements every time,keep up the good work :)
And to the track crew who did such a huge job of trying to get the track in a safe and drivable condition despite the rain etc,the desicions to send us[the turbo slicks class] back to the pits a couple of times as the track wasnt good enough was correct and sensible,thankyou for your efforts,
1.311 60 ft was my best to this point
 
Screwdrivers for the best race car trophy,I am glad you liked it :),shame the rain came to spoil the presentations,the cab was sitting out in it waiting to be driven round to collect it,but it wasnt to be

and finally to team YAC who kept the cabrio going round all weekend  ;D it keeps getting better and better
