My Dad and brother ( Sum Fun and Radical Rod cars) used Pauter parts for years along with Gene Brown (Strip Teaser Ghia) when they were building their engines together in the eighties. Pauter parts are top notch as are the people.

Wicked build for sure.  I bet it shut up a few nay-sayers.  IIRC, majority of those engine parts were on some record setting dragster prior to being reconfigured for street use.  Not sure if it was sand drags or the quarter mile strip.  In any case, the last I read, the engine is currently running a CB Performance EFI kit. 

I love it! Another testament to the fact that big motors can run and be driven in the street if engineered for such.  Don Pauters stuff has always worked. A good friend of mine still has one of his REV-TRUE 73mm flanged VW cranks with 5.7 chevy rods and 90mm NPRS in his 57 oval.  The motor is 38 years old and still running!

The ducting inside of that fan shroud looks well thought out.

But do they flow more just because they have been converted to throttle bodies?

Probably not but it gives them control.

JS, you don't need any of that stuff that's obstructing the airflow when you are using them as throttle body's. Like the tube in the center and the venturies and the rest of the stuff.

And remember that "big lungs" (3liter +) on the engine can suck thru a straw for a long time... therefore "small carbs" works even on huge engines.

I believe Don has had the beast for some time now and its streetability is awe inspiring, considering the components used........ imagine the torque, man what a rush that would be especially in a Ghia where the sitting position is a lot lower than a beetle.
Don, you a re a champ and a very clever engineer to boot, I still have one of the old 69mm C/W wedgemated cranks, been in a race car now going in a streeter.

JHU, very true IMO, a large engine just becomes a pig to drive on the street with too big an intake body, key is to create velocity @ part throttle and have the ability to really breathe @ WOT which would be easy enough with unrestricted 48mm throttle bodies, engine like Don's would be awesome to drive.

Indeed. That's why it would be interesting to know what has been done to them. Are they still 48mm or enlarged? Do they have venturies or does the venturie only exist to create the pressure difference needed to suck fuel trough the jets?

I pretty sure they are true 48's without the very restrictive venturi's in them
