DIXIE TWISTER  Price: $3500
1964-7 drag racing vw. Has been several years since it has raced.
Ran low 10’s in the ¼ miles. Has a great chop job, center line spindle front end. Custom aluminum tub rear fire wall. Aluminum pans and front end. Fiber glass front hood, rear fenders and rear deck lid. Wheelie bars are included. I don’t know much about the transmission. The original owner was getting to old and sold the car and a lot of parts to me. I know some of you have seen the Dixie Twister run in Greer, SC. With a little work, it could be made into a cool street car, if you did not want to race this car. This is not a project car. It's ready to roll. NO TITLE. What you see is what you get. I also have a lot of other parts you could look at.

Doesn't look like an old NHRA-legal /Gas-class racer to me. Chassis too modern, ugly roof chop. Just another former race car that's past its sell-by date. Or not! :D

That car used to run in the IVWA series back in the late '80s, way post NHRA modified Eliminator. Usually, 1/8th mile (see the 6-second dial-in on the window), and up and down the south east. IVWA was a joke! But they had some nice cars, including the old Race Shop Ghia.... Dave Kawell tried to run this series but Judy got so pissed off with IVWA's Walter Tate they pulled out! Oh, the stories.....

I never liked chops with the "leaning" B-pillars.

I remember that car from the early eighties, was one of the best on the East coast. Whenever it fired up it would draw a crowd, went fast and straight. I would always walk by it ( 1985 ) and think of how nice of a car it was and how I wanted to go that fast someday, gave me alot of inspiration. I guess that its true, " beauty is in the eye of the beholder" because I still think she is beautiful and if my finances were just a little bit better I would buy it and restore it back to original. I would feel safer driving that car than alot of racecars I have seen at the tracks. I raced in the IVWA series and it may have been a joke but it was pretty cool at the time. Walter Tate was hard to deal with thats for sure, but when it was gone I thought vw's were done on the East coast, thank goodness I was wrong. There were alot of good racecars and great drivers in IVWA , alot are still racing in the SEVWA series. Mike McCarthy

p.s. I am partial to chops myself

How long ago did the IVWA go away?  Was it late '90s?  I seem to remember they re-evolved into a modern import racing club or association or something to that effect.
