Title: Lets see your vintage Breather Boxes
Post by: Zach Gomulka on October 28, 2010, 01:57:31 am
This Sandmaster one I have is pretty cool, lots of pieces! Next one is exactly like my old Race-Trim (block letters) box, but without the logo, last is just a no name, simple and clean looking though :) Anyone know who made it?

What have you got??

Couple of my (now sold) Race-Trim boxes, 1st & 3rd generation.

Here are my collection of Deano Dyno Soars breather boxes !
The small one is mounted in my GTV.
I also have a matching "large" one.
The unusual "tubular" one was handmade by Dean Lowry himself for use on one of his personal projects.(purchased from Glenn Miller)
The bracket mounts to a case bolt and the breather box is mounted to it via a hose clamp.
It postions it right over the top of a 36hp style fanshroud.
There should be two "push-on" breathers on top that are not pictured.
 :)

I'll have to try and submit a pic of one I obtained in a lot of sandrail and buggy parts recently.  Looks like the DDS one pictured above but has no lettering on it, and there's a good size hole in the bottom.  I would assume that the hole was bored secondhand and not by the manufacturer, and for what purpose I don't know, other than to drain back to the engine?  It's much larger than the standard vent holes, maybe 3/4" or so.  Will get a pic up as soon as I can.  I thought maybe it was just an older Claude's Buggies (CB) box, but their stuff usually has their name on it.

Looks like maybe a CB type 3 box.

Stealth67vw (John Bates) emailed me with the same info, and I had that brainstorm last night as I was perusing an old 1981 CB catalog... the box wasn't in there, but I recalled they make a Type 3 breather box that goes under the decklid... that's quite likely what it is, I reckon.

I came by these recently. Funny story is, Shubee calls me and say's "there's a guy near you that won't ship some NOS Blue Coils I want, can you go pick them up and ship them to me?" So I say sure no problem. Get there and this guy sells on TheSamba. Same guy Shubee turned me on to who I bought a lower end from. Well get there and start browsing, guy has as sh*tload of stuff. Dig through a milk crate and see the breather and say, "I could use one of these." So he say's "you need it?" I say, "yeah, but I don't have enough money for it". He says, "what do you want to pay for it?" So I say, "I've got $20 bucks", so he says "Sure, take the oil pump cover too!'
So, Thanks Shubee, now all I need is a Deano sump and valve covers :D.

You mean like these??? Darn it, if I didn't have to button up my 2275 motor I might part with them. NOT!  Keep looking. You will come across some eventually. I was lucky to get these from Dean Lowry when he lived here in Arizona and did a set of heads for my 2110 in my past 67.

These are nice, heavy covers that do not distort when you tighten them down. They don't leak either. Just getting ready to button up my heads after cutting the push rods, setting rocker arm geometry, etc.

I've got some virtually identical ones with Bugpack cast into them - I suspect that they're the same moulds just with the letters changed.

Bugpack still makes them by the way.
