Title: jumping spark
Post by: nicolas on November 07, 2010, 14:39:34 pm
here is what a guy has on his engine.
the engine is a 2276 with a 130 cam and CB injection kit (computer and trottlebodies), the ignition is handled by a 009 with compufire and a MSD coil ( or similar)

the problem is that on his 3 and 4 cylinderside the spark jumps from number 4 to number 3 when it is being revved (static, no load). the other side is fine. i want to hear your opinions about it regarding what may cause this problem. thanks in advance.

Faulty sparkplug cables/connector ends seems to be the obvious, have you tried to change them?

thanks! no, but we will do that.  but would  it cause the spark to jump out of the barrel into the other?

I had a similar problem when the lead wasn't fully 'home' on the plug (even though it felt like it wouldn't budge any further on!).

Also look closely to the  coil wires if they 're really next the injector ones you can have problem  due to "electric noise" .
you may run no longer than 10/13" long HT coil wire .We had the problem on the first CB turbo injection engine we built (And we take a lot of time to find the problem)
If you really don't find the pb don't hesitate to contact CB they re always there to help you!!  ((PAt down or mark lawless are very patient and ready to help even with overseas customer!! :D ;))

thanks again.
i will try to help him out with the given advice and have a good look at his wires.
and if i knew what he really has from CB i would have sent them an email, but i have to look at it and maybe it is better he does it himself.
