Title: Neiman Steering Lock - Is this for a RHD car?
Post by: Deanodynosaurs on December 02, 2010, 16:38:18 pm
Just a quick question.

Is this Neiman steering lock correct for a 58 bug? (Actually a 59 model) And if so, will it work in a RHD car?

I'm not too sure but i think it needs to be the other way around for a RHD car , so as not to get tangled up with the fuse box cover .

The fuse box is under the bonnet like on a oval on a 58

I know what you mean about the handedness though as I seen one exactly the same fitted in a LHD car. Never seen a 'reversed' lock though.

Suppose the easy answer would be to trial fit it!

I had a similar 'Neiman' lock on a RHD Oval.

It was the same 'hand' as the one you've shown in your picture.

It worked fine, but I was never happy with the way it was fitted ot the way it looked. :(

Perhaps it was simply a LHD Lock adapted and used for RHD models  ???

Very often these German (Euro) made accessories wern't always made for RHD (smaller) Markets.

Right fitted it up tonight, and sadly although its close, it dont fit. As plasticblack says, it would work, It just doesnt sit flush to the dash when bolted down.

Thus looks like i'm going back to stock. Cool as it a cleaner look, but a shit as i'd oversived drilled the ignition barrel hole. Time to get the welder out again!  ::)

Cheers for everybodies input though. :)
