Normally they should have it in a Bookshop in Antwerp by the end of the month.  I'm regulary there as my wife's parents live there.  I will buy the stock ;D

Oh come on, Hot VWs subscription is so cheap... Costs probably less for a whole year then you would spend on gas looking for this one issue. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but only a little bit and it's still worth it IMO.

It's pretty cheap magazine to subscribe, compared to the effort of finding single issues :)

So someone in the Uk is a subscriber?

It was built by me in Michigan with a lot of long-distance help from both Dean and Gene. I first met Dean at age 18. My friend Dale and I were lucky enough to be volunteer crew and return road tow car for Dean and the Schley Bros. - at the 1970 US Nationals!  We had Dyno-Soar parts and Webers on our Bugs- (we bought a Cobra manifold w 4- 48 IDAs - split up the carbs and lost the manifold and linkage - please don't tell anyone on the Cobra Forums!)  - Dean went to the final and would have won had not a fight started among photographers right next to Dean's car while he was staging. He redlighted. I still get massive goosebumps just thinking about that weekend. I vowed to win the Nationals in my own Bug one day. I never did that, but I did manage to get into the 10s with that NA 1915cc car in fall 2001.  With heads/manifolds by Dean and Berg reciprocating parts. I used that '67 to smoke  tons of totally unsuspecting Detroit iron at Milan Dragway for many years.

I just found this forum today. Suffice it to say, I CANNOT WAIT to see the Hot VWs issue you mention.  Thanks to all of you here who are helping to keep these memories alive. Gosh, I miss those times....

Last week, Paul and Mark Schley drove over to visit Ken Lowry, and presented him with a copy of the Feb issue. As you may know, Ken's health is presently not that good, and it was important to all of us that he saw that issue. We are way over-due in paying tribute to the Lowrys for what they accomplished over the years. I am so glad he had a chance to see this story, and look forward to getting him the next part as well.

That's touching Deano. Great pic. I looked for the new issue locally in Chicago tonight but it's not here yet. This will motivate me even more to finish my hottodded DDS period engine that will eventually live in my 64 sunroof. It will have many purple parts on it. :D

In response to some questions above; I found HotVWs at the International Magazine Store (IMS) in The Hague and in Antwerp.

Just got mine and have`nt really read it yet. But, it seems that definition of "Cal Look" is getting more and more vague as time passes. Still a good issue and I will buy the magazine till I die.

One question:  Why did DDS not make it into the Fisher book?  The picture was all ready and everything.

For some unknown (to me) reason, Bill Fisher and the Lowrys had a falling out. Not sure why, but things changed once Bill's book was in production. So, the photo was taken, like the rest at Carlsbad, but it was never used. Notice how the back cover photos don't match...

Ah I see. One of these things is not like the others..... :)

My understanding is that there may have been pressure from Joe for Fisher not to give too much coverage in Dean's direction after their falling out when Dean left to form DDS. That's what Dean hinted at when I raised the matter of the relationship between him and Joe Vittone. True? Not true? Who knows. Maybe Bill Fisher does… Is he still around?

Bill Fisher passed away a while back.

Excellent history lesson, great photos and very good reading as well Deano. I learned many things I didn't know.
