Title: Ever use any valve springs with a damper in them?
Post by: Brandon Sinclair on January 27, 2011, 20:41:46 pm
I was checking out some Isky VW single springs with dampers (part # V-005-D), and was wondering if the damper really helps with valve harmonics like dual springs do and do you need to cut down the spring bosses like you do for dual springs?

There are lots of good dual springs available like the JPM OTEVA and CB650, but was wondering what the options were for single HD springs.

All I could find right now were the Berg HD, Bugpack singles and ran across the Isky ones today.  It seems like most single HD springs just remove the inner spring from the set so I wonder if I took a CB650 and removed the inner spring how it would measure out on a spring tester.

I'm not too much of an expert, but I thought Remmele Motorsport sold good single springs:

My old Pauter heads I bought off Jerry @ BH in 1990 had a single HD with flat damper inners. Broke an outer a few weeks after heads went on with W125, but I was too green to know how to set up spring heights/travel back then. I was lucky it ran at all.
I ran ERCO triples in late 90's to 7700rpm with Crawford 320 cam for a few weeks. Lots of work to make those clear,

Jim

I've been using the Crower 68311 since 2008 (~420 lbs over the nose), single H-11 spring with damper on a mild solid roller cam, daily driven. They work.
