Title: My cal look '63 Post by: ballbag on April 15, 2007, 13:26:28 pm A few people of here have seen my thread on VZi, i thought i may aswell put it on here as i on usually lurk :o :D
Here we go then I bought my car with no engine or MOT and i had not had a dub for a good few years so it was a good chanllenge. Anyways, this is how i bought it (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/My%20Bug/Offsideside.jpg) It had been restored about 16 years previous and has only had 3 owners, The original purchaser and the guy who had it restored, then the guy i bought it off hadn't had the legal docs (V5), so it only shows as 2 previous owners :) . It has had a great restoration and alot of money spent on it and is looking well for 16 years. I got an old motor in and bought a narrowed beam and run it around like this for a while (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/My%20Bug/CID__aT0cUV3ZM8_.jpg) Which i was happy with ( don't ask me why i painted the drums red, cos' i have no idea ::) ) Then i started to think about where i wanted to go with it, i chose the cal look route :D. So i changed the wheels and started to lok for a good motor. On and off with the bumpers, definately off now though ;) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/My%20Bug/5db83b89.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/My%20Bug/bugcent.jpg) Title: Re: My cal look '63 Post by: ballbag on April 15, 2007, 13:35:56 pm I saw an add on Volkszone last for this motor, so i went and bought it

Title: Re: My cal look '63 Post by: ballbag on April 15, 2007, 16:59:19 pm Here's a little snippet of the motor running :D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/Bug%20Resto/th_Motorrun.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/Bug%20Resto/?action=view¤t=Motorrun.flv) Title: Re: My cal look '63 Post by: ballbag on April 15, 2007, 17:07:54 pm I had to take the motor out again for a problem with the clutch, i've had to order a load of uprated clutch shaft equipment ::)
the original ones i put it have snapped and have been rattly round my new kennedy pressure plate, i was probably a bit naive to they would work really. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/Bug%20Resto/DSCF0877.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/Bug%20Resto/DSCF0883.jpg) What a mess, oh well you live and learn, just waiting on all the new stuff to arrive now and i should be back on the road. That's about it for now, hopefully a respray just in time for Bugjam this year, i can enter the show and go then :D Title: Re: My cal look '63 Post by: Shubee2 (DSK) on April 16, 2007, 01:11:54 am why are you using a late pressure plate and early Throw out Bearing?? you should be using the early pressure Plate with a Collar on it ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
Title: Re: My cal look '63 Post by: ballbag on April 16, 2007, 18:46:03 pm That's what i say dude, i was a bit naive to think it work, i've never done anything like this before and just assumed it would work ::) , i didn't know that there was a difference till it broke and i had to do some research.
Title: Re: My cal look '63 Post by: ballbag on June 25, 2007, 11:39:14 am Well i have had the car running and running fast ;D ,
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/th_c8c6f0e5.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/?action=view¤t=c8c6f0e5.pbr) Two days later and this is where i'm at :D (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/Bug%20Resto/boxout.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/ballbag/brokenbox.jpg) The spider gears were shredded and it looks like there is a crack in the diff. I have got hold of a GT box and it is having a heavy duty side plate fitted today. I should have it ready for Bugjam at least, i've got 16 evenings and 4 full days as i'm busy the rest of the time. ;) Title: Re: My cal look '63 Post by: louisb on June 25, 2007, 14:54:15 pm Well quit posting here and get to work!
