Title: Gauge Panels, VDO Cockpit Bezels, Empi 'style' gauges *NEW PICS ADDED*
Post by: plasticblack on March 10, 2011, 21:55:12 pm
Here are a few items I've been putting together over the last few weeks.

First up are the Dash Panels and these are available in LHD or RHD & are available to it Beetles from 1958 to 1979.

They can be made in Teak, Oak, Mahogany, Black/Brown Vinyl or 'Empi' Wood Effect Vinyl. ;)

I am able to supply these to specific order ( custon/personalized gauge combinations/locations)  I have many Period VDO, Stewart Warner & Yazaki Gauges and Tachometers available.

I might also be convinced to do matching Glovebox Lids as well.. ;)

The Gauge Combo shown is standard VDO Cockpit style. Fixings can be custom made so prices will vary obviously.

Next are my VDO Cockpit Bezels, which are pretty hard to find these days. I've had some Fun making these ;D

They are available for 52mm Gauges and I'm just finishing the 80mm ones for Tachometers.

Lastly I have been playing around with different gauges to make 'Empi' Style Gauges complete with logos.

I can supply Gauges or will be happy to convert folks gauges for them with the logos.

 'Empi@ Logos are available separately

HI Paul,

Are you thinking bout making a copy of the EMPI wood look aka the LHD one?
All the ones I have seen have had too larger hole for the tacho.

Cheers OL

I can do a version with the fake wood effect vinyl.

The Panels are all custom builds. No two will be exactly alike.

At present I'm able to do standard 52mm gauge holes and 80mm for Tachometer, these are typically the sizes people want.

I'm willing to have a have a go at other sizes if requested.

I'll try and post a pic today of the 'Fake' Wood effect for you.

Fixings for the panels are determined by customer choice. :)

These panels can be held in place in several different ways.

My preference is for nuts/bolts. The bolt is set/fixed to the back of the panel and requires a few rubber washers to secure nicely & deal with any vibration.

This method will require drilling some small holes obviously.

For those that don't wish to drill holes. I'm trying out some other applications to see how successful they are.

I'll post up some pics as soon as possible.

The Original Empi Wooden dash panels were pretty thick (12-14mm) and so were fitted using simple screws.

Mine are thinner/slimmer and cannot be attached this way. The fixings shown will hold over 4kg weight with no problems.
They are bonded in using a 2-part adhesive (very strong)
