Title: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: TexasTom on March 15, 2011, 01:01:49 am I've been wanting to change my interior for some time ... something more timeless, non-generational.
The look it has was IN at the time. Still very clean, but dated, somehow (90s). ;) Post your thoughts and ideas; near everything is up for consideration, pending reason/reality. ;) Exterior is Porsche Minerva Blue. I'll post MY ideas and preferences as needed ... Hey, it's my car and I have a few ... just thought it'd be cool to hear other's ideas. Winner may receive a prise, maybe not. ;D Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: Zach Gomulka on March 15, 2011, 02:10:14 am Bring it to me, I'll take care of it ;)
Stock perforated vinyl headliner and german square weave carpet with stock floor mats. Vinyl/cloth seats with biscuts, pleats, or diamonds (gasp!) sewn in the cloth. Matching vinyl/cloth pattern on door panels with the bottom 3 1/2" in square weave. Colours are up to you, but I'd stick with something similar to what you've got there. Just different fabrics, and patterns. Clean, classic, custom, and timeless. Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: danny gabbard on March 15, 2011, 02:59:39 am How about redoing the center of seats all gray with same material and make matching gray door panels and some type of crome strip to break up door panels?
Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: rick m on March 15, 2011, 08:06:30 am Hey Tom, Zach could give you the 70's traditional cal look treatment. When I owned my teal green 67 (Burnout Contest Car) it had a tweed interior too. I built the car in 94/95, about the time you probably did yours. Zach has a taste for the early look. I will post some shots of my door panels later this week. I wanted to take my chop top back to a more traditional look too, changing the interior.
Your car looks good! Rick Mortensen Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: jamiep_jamiep on March 15, 2011, 09:22:18 am Hey Tom, I really like your whole car, and although the interior is not 'pure cal look' I think its cool, and lets not forget, some of the coolest, funkiest cars around today are ones that were NOT timeless, they DID date....
the attraction of them is that they're stuck firmly in a different era and while they were going out of style at one time they are now the leaders again! Its OK not to be current :D ;D and why be timeless... :) Just my tuppence though, I'm sure whatever happens it will still be a very cool car, and I know too well what its like to feel like the need for a change. :) Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: Peter on March 15, 2011, 10:34:40 am I'd leave it the way it is...
Its cool and unique, and fits great with the car :) Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: Nico86 on March 15, 2011, 12:48:48 pm Keeping the same material and same colors, I'd just replace door panels with a more "conventional" pattern.
Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: Zach Gomulka on March 15, 2011, 18:15:26 pm Keeping the same material and same colors, I'd just replace door panels with a more "conventional" pattern. That would be easy, and help A LOT. I just can't stand tweed. It's like sandpaper! Thanks for the kind words, Rick :) Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: Bill Schwimmer on March 16, 2011, 03:35:43 am Blue westy plaid for the cloth inserts.
Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: NAO on March 16, 2011, 04:25:27 am Interior change...interesting subject. I'm doing it right now!!
I had stock interior for 15 years now...just because I was making stock car before somebody change my mind...(Bill). Stock interior is nice but as someone mentioned it...."unique" is key factor for the "look". All stock look but big engine on the back is clean & nice and somehow on the trend of cal look but when you see one and only interior....nothing beat it's "Look" Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: rick m on March 16, 2011, 08:52:47 am The early biscuit look is making a comeback! Long live the early Cal Look interiors! Sorry about the terrible shots. They were taken with too much flash and don't do the door panels justice. I plan to have Zach do biscuit inserts in my seats later when I finish things up.

Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: TexasTom on March 20, 2011, 02:16:04 am Looks like FAT BISCUIT upholstery is high on the Cal-Look list ... ;D
There are some very clean examples pictured here that DAMN NEAR set me to the point to redo it all ... Although, I gotta say, redoing just the door panels would be very easy. Zach, I gotta say, I really don't mind tweed ... is a durable fabric, resilient, and attractive ... my opinion. The biscuit treatment definitely is a statement, but the color has to be spot on ... otherwise, it just looks old. This is what I'm thinking ... New square-weave carpet with rubber floor mats (probably grey on black, although I have not seen a sample of blue carpet yet and am open ...). Door panels could simplify the project and lead to far less $$$. If I go for the headliner, then it's ALL OUT ... if you're taking the windows out, WHAT"S THE PROBLEM >>> DO IT! For now, still considering potions that don't go ALL THE WAY> Thanks to everyone that's expressed their ideas! ... so far. ;D Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: Rennsurfer on March 20, 2011, 02:26:09 am Tom, dark blue carpet would look in your car. I saved 100's over what TMI wanted and got exactly what I needed and everything fit. They are out of the UK (kinda) but the covers ship from Vietnam. I know, I know, but I'm telling you that everything went well and it all fit great. Very professional. I have 67 front seats in a 70 vert and the 70 vert has some one year only issues as well. They were very meticulous and got everything right. I thought for sure it would get ugly some how.... but all was well. I would easily recommend them. My entire kit with door panels was $430 shipped to my front door (CA) and there are lots of colors to choose from.

Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: Zach Gomulka on March 22, 2011, 02:22:00 am Another thought on just redoing the panels- you'll have to check with your upholstery guy, but finding the same materials may prove difficult. Those things have a very short production life.

But that mount, I did one part of it and Mark V. at Bergs help me finish it a few years back. It's one of a kind. But like the other post I partly agree, that is if it's done tastefully but functionally, it's ok. And if you have a real motor to USE it. If you have a stock or small motor, WHY? Then it's a waste. But I've seen some with some crazy brackets that just does not go. Saying it nicely. ;D

I like your fabric. You gotta like ted's all black look too. Here is my hounds tooth color mix . Goes well with bahama blue. Seat frames just painted, as new german grey square weave carpet next. Kinda small shot of my door panels with matching material . Painted brm spokes grey hoping to get a little similar contrast. I think it's great getting alot of feedback from everyone. but it's your car, do what YOU like. bill

When's it gonna RUN? ;D Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: bilboa2 on March 28, 2011, 02:37:38 am tom, can run soon, as oil in motor, just need final wiring to dist from compufire dual coil pack, mounted in hat shelf to distributor. I wanted as little wiring in eng compartment, plug wires go through firewall, underneath to coil pack. doug berg made a fiberglass cover, painted grey, looks like metal. Going to carpet guy soon? WEATHER ? Hope to go to top gun raceway next weekend, doug to dial in ken's street car for 60 ft times. MAYBE make a pass in my car with cheater slicks, m an h slicks recapped by caldwell tire. Gives the car a cool stance, nice rake... bill
Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: TexasTom on April 20, 2011, 02:24:43 am OK ... I've developed some ideas ...
Dark/Navy blue seats, fat biscuit centers in blue or contrasting black&white/grey fabric. Door panels in blue as well with fat biscuit panel and carpeted bottom. Matching dark blue square weave carpet with rubber floor mats only ... carpeted tunnel. Headliner in perforated bone/white with matching blue detail. I can see it in my head ... would even be cool with some sort of aftermarket seat as long as it's low-back ... stock lows are very good too. HMMMM.... Uh Oh ... focus just went to engines ;D ... over & out. Title: Re: Interior Redesign Challenge Post by: NAO on April 20, 2011, 04:49:53 am Wow...sound familliar... ;D

So many great examples to be found in this post and other threads! There are 3 or 4 that really stand out! I had been considering switching to a different, non-stock seat but I really like the look I've seen with some of the custom touches done so I'll most likely stick with my old low-backs. I'm currently looking/deciding on possible insert materials ... The hardest part for me will most likely be finding someone in the area to do the work! I'm pretty stubborn when it comes to letting someone else do pretty much anything for me. I know, I know ... a personal problem LOL! So, as much as I'd like to say, "Will be done next week, I'm told, and I'll post pics then ...", it's BACK TO WORK for me.
