Title: 48 IDA Repair...? Post by: Stoo the worm Simpson on March 28, 2011, 12:06:58 pm Does anyone know if it is possible to tig weld an IDA, as one of mine has a worn hole where the accelerator pump lever sits in the main body of the carb....
I need to fill this hole up before i can re-drill the hole again, Or is there any other way this can be achieved...like a pressed in bush etc. I have circled the part in this rather bad pic...sorry i have know idea why it has come out like this. (http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee208/Stootheworm/Carb-1.jpg) Thanks in advance. Stoo Title: Re: 48 IDA Repair...? Page 43 onwards if it goes to the start of the thread!

Heres another photo as im not sure anyone can see the other one...! Title: Re: 48 IDA Repair...? Post by: Carsten on April 01, 2011, 13:02:24 pm Maybe you do not have to weld it up. I would try to drill it bigger and put a bush in (maybe with glue or press fit). Then put the shaft in.
My idea... Carsten Title: Re: 48 IDA Repair...? Post by: Harry/FDK on April 01, 2011, 13:45:42 pm You can't TIG it, too much zink in the casting. Your carb will melt away. I would try the Timesert M3 method or the Helicoil ( ???).
Title: Re: 48 IDA Repair...? Post by: Bruce on April 01, 2011, 20:44:40 pm I've TIG welded Webers before. It welds just like any other ally casting I've welded.
One non-welding cure is to drill the hole larger, and thread it. Then get a new steel post custom made with that same thread on it. Loctite and screw it in. |
