Title: Front tyre size Post by: stait9 on March 29, 2011, 21:15:04 pm Hello everyone
Need to replace my front tyres which were too small (135x15 - was appropriate for previous project) and have been discussing the best size to go forward with. Had been looking at Michelin ZXZ 145 80 15, but someone made mention in a previous thread of being able use wider tyres with similar profile and I was interested in hearing everyone's thoughts? If there was another thread, sorry I missed it. Thanks Stuart Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: Zach Gomulka on March 29, 2011, 21:24:55 pm 175/65 and 185/60 are both the same height as the 145. What wheels are you running?
Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: TexasTom on March 29, 2011, 21:30:36 pm I have 175s on the F4BRMs and 185s on 6" Alloys that Zach mentions, both in front.
There are also 175/55-15s available which are similar in height to 135s. The 175/65s are stock size on new Minis so are relatively easy to find. Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: glenn on March 29, 2011, 21:39:36 pm I just mounted 195/55-15 on 5.5x15 alloys in front which are the same height as 135-15.

Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: Zach Gomulka on March 29, 2011, 22:37:08 pm 175/65 will look best on those since they are 5.5" wide. You'll have to narrow the beam (assuming it's lowered).
Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: TexasTom on March 29, 2011, 22:44:29 pm The 175s fit the 5" (BRM rep.) rims quite nicely.
If you think about it, 165s were on the 4.5" stock rims ... Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: Jim Ratto on March 29, 2011, 23:02:04 pm I have 175's on my Flat 4 BRMs
Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: Neil Davies on March 30, 2011, 09:59:06 am I used 155/70's on a Beetle once - they were a little wider than the 145 but a similar sort of height to the 135.
Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: luvbug on March 30, 2011, 13:27:31 pm I have 165/65 on 5.5 fuchs, the height almost similar to 135s ;D

Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: Rennsurfer on March 30, 2011, 14:03:20 pm Really liking the front tires on that car, Luvbug. I'd like to see what those look like in person. I'll hit up my local tire suppliers. I can't stand the usual narrow ones (145) that are on my car.
Title: Re: Front tyre size Post by: Nico86 on March 30, 2011, 14:08:32 pm I you can find 165/70 you'll be close to 145R15. Must be a good size to have fun on little roads!

IMO, that would be the perfect tyre for the front of a looker, but there exists no such size. The 165/65's look nice, but just a bit too short for my tastes. And as far as I know they're only available in Europe.
