Title: Bump steer kit issues Post by: qubek on April 11, 2011, 14:34:35 pm My Beetle (’66, ball joint beam) is not excessively lowered, but still tie rods were not level (outer ends was higher then inner ends even in the car just standing). Plus there ware marks on the longer one and the bottom of the fuel tank suggesting that the two come in contact from time to time.
Taking this into account, I decided to install a bump steer kit. The one available in all shops and meant to cure this kind of problems in such a way that outer tie rod ends join spindles from the bottom, not from the top. The point is that now I have problems with tie rod touching a top of a frame head: (http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/6529/dsc84148553209.jpg) I could prevent this by installing limiting straps like this: (http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/6626/dsc84198540303s.jpg) But then the lowest a wheel can go in relation the body is like this: (http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/7751/dsc84128011234.jpg) Previously it was like this: (http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/6640/dsc76048546070.jpg) Did anybody here use this kit and knows how to overcome the problem? Maybe I was wrong using it at all? Title: Re: Bump steer kit issues Post by: beetletom on April 11, 2011, 15:41:02 pm once the car is in the floor? surly the track rods should move upwards?

Of course, but you need to lift a car once for a while. And then the wheels are hanging on the rods, which are rather not designed for that. And I'm thinking if the same cannot happen sometimes while I'm driving. |
