Title: 2276 bhp at wheels? is this right or do i have problem???
Post by: Stefan Rossi on April 13, 2011, 21:24:00 pm
Hi

I have a 2276cc and im not sure if this sounds about right or not
9.5:1 comp ratio
fk89 cam
48 IDA's
44x37.5 wedge port 044 head
1 3/4 header and 75mm muffler.

the engine has done aprox 2000 miles

i took it to the rolling road last week and it made 152bhp and 144ftlbs at the wheels at 6914rpm

i run a stock box for now (very soon to be changed) with a traction bar, altho it wasnt on for the rolling road and gaz adjust rear shocks and standard mounts.

it sounds a little bit less to me but im not sure? what are your figures/experience?

thanks

stef

Running on Jeff's direction ...
I would think you would want a WHOLE LOT more compression to bring that FK89 around to do what it's KNOWN to do ... like 11.5+:1.
Alternatively, if it's 9.5:1 you desire, I'd look into a WebCam 86B or FK8/FK10 to maximize efficient power for your combination. ;)

You might want to try some additional tuning on the dyno.

My 2332 cc, 44 x 37.5 CB 044 Ultra Mag Plus (with K-Roc porting), 10.5:1 CR, 91 octane, Web 86C, 1.75" header made 180.4 HP at the wheels.  It took over an hour of experimentation with the timing, as we were getting HP ratings all over the map (from 140-180 WHP)...here are some of the chassis dyno curves:

I was thining of a cam change but I think I'm just going to wait untill I turbo it in the winter. I love the fk89 when it kicks in it is awesome!

I am thinking of uping the comp ration to 10.5 or even 11.5 but I'm scared as to how hot it will run on the streets. At the moment it barley gets above 80 degrees!!!

Neil what were you doing to your timing to get such radical hp changes?

We tried several test runs starting from 30 degrees advance all the way up to 36 degrees.

I live at 1,000 m elevation (Canada), so the 36 degrees advance ended up being the best choice, giving the 180 HP.  I run 10.5:1 CR and 91-94 octane with 15% ethanol (equivalent to 95-98 octane in Europe) and the doghouse cooling seems to work fine...highest oil temps are 90-95 C. and can reach 100 C on a hot summer day (I use synthetic 5W40 oil). Heads don't get hot at all, except when hot-lapping at the track...
