Title: BRM Centre caps
Post by: H67bug on May 08, 2011, 20:55:54 pm
Hi

Lost a centre cap out driving this weekend- was such a cool day for driving not even this could wipe the smile away!

Who sells the best repros to fit genuine BRMS? I have some Flat 4 BRMS with caps but they are very shiney (polished rather than satin) and not a tight fit.

It may be that the caps I have on the other 3 wheels are not actually genuine anyway, although they look it to me- any tell tale signs? If the 3 are genuine I may try and track a 4th down but I wont be able to stretch to 4 genuine ones if the 3 I have are repops- if that makes any sense?

Based in UK.

Many thanks

FAT makes the nice ones ...
I know it doesn't much help, you're being in the UK ...

Flat4 caps have a different writting compared to genuine ones.

MWS caps have the correct "Riverside-London" writting, but I don't know if they will fit genuine wheels, and they are shinny too.

FAT makes the nice ones ...

... they look like this.  You'll still have to use a dab of silicone to keep them in.

I have those exact caps from F.A.T. Performance that Sarge pictured. Silicone or Gascacinch works well to keep them safely in the wheels. I have the first generation of Flat Four BRM wheels.

Good luck and hope that you're able to locate what you want.

Why not just buy the single original brm cap that's for sale on the samba from Sean aka gogoghia  ? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1088645 (ftp://http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1088645)

Thanks everyone- really very helpful.

At home I have realised I have the Flat 4 caps and some MWS- must have bought them at same time. The writing it a little thicker and they are slightly too small though so worth keeping on my search.

Restojohnny- Thank you for the head sup. If the genni one out of the 5 is the "patinad" one I am trying to find something in slightly better condition now that the wheels have been renovated- but thanks for the thought- much appreciated.

Will try and contact the FAT guys and use some silicone to put the remaining ones back in this time. When I tried to contact FAT last time I realsied they dont  list an e mail address so I look forward to calling them this week and trying on my best "Posh English" accent.  ;D

Hi Simon

I am happy to post up the story but to be fair it would be far better coming from you if you have the time- Its great to hear these things from people actually there.

I can add the tail of the story of how I came to "be looking after them" now.

I have scanned the article and played with it a little although it wont be readable, just a nice pic! ;D
