Title: Wanted: 356C/911/912/914-6 steel wheel Post by: Rennsurfer on May 10, 2011, 04:34:49 am Don't care if the finish is chrome or silver... long as they're straight and not bent or dented. Need a spare for my Bug and don't want another alloy. Date of manufacture (stamped on wheel) isn't important, either. Long as it's the same style wheel shown in the picture below. Prefer to be local, as the shipping cost will most likely be rather expensive. I'm guessing one wheel weighs 12-17 lbs.
[attachment=1] Must be 15" diameter, and don't care about the width. Although I'm almost certain they were produced in 4.5", 5", & 6" for the street cars. Race cars had much wider widths. Please post and/or send a private message. Thank you in advance. Title: Re: Wanted: 356C/911/912/914-6 steel wheel Post by: Rennsurfer on May 16, 2011, 13:51:27 pm Bump.
Anyone? Title: Re: Wanted: 356C/911/912/914-6 steel wheel Post by: Neil Davies on May 20, 2011, 13:00:11 pm Mark, I have a spare out of a 944, and although it has a kind of wierd double valve thing, it looks pretty close to your picture. I think it's a 5.5J, so would probably work for you - at least, it'll help you to broaden your search! :)

The extra hole needs to be welded in order to mount a normal radial on those. Not a big thing... but I'm looking for the original 911 wheels. Is the center on yours made of steel or alloy? Some of the ones with the round holes are alloy & are actually pretty cool. One of the European VW mags featured a Split with gold ones like that... VERY cool/mean looking. Thanks for the kind offer. Have a look at this add: http://porsche356registry.org/classifieds/4-other-porsche-cars-parts/42-55-x-15-inch-painted-wheel.html Oh wow... that ad for the $50 wheel suits my budget rather nicely. Thanks, Christoph! Title: Re: Wanted: 356C/911/912/914-6 steel wheel Post by: Rennsurfer on July 23, 2011, 18:47:33 pm Thanks to RACEHEAD for stepping up and sending a wheel.
(http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1349.0;attach=53281;image) Now to sand blast it, apply the etching & sanding primer, then the silver top coat. Can't wait to see it sitting in my '67 spare wheel bay. Eventually, I want four more of these... if anyone knows where I can find 'em. Thanks! Title: Re: Wanted: 356C/911/912/914-6 steel wheel Post by: Jon on July 25, 2011, 08:16:41 am Fred, make sure to notice the shape and size of the conical protrusion around the lugnuts when you buy more wheels. The wheel in your pic has the early look, some of the later ones looks (very) different.

Beings that these wheels, although look the same, varied from the late 356C, to the next year's 911, to being used a spare, then later model cars. The one I received looks to have been made in 1968, which means it probably came from a '68 or '69 911/912.

pfff....i'm lost, i just need one as a spare, too! ;) Title: Re: Wanted: 356C/911/912/914-6 steel wheel Post by: Rennsurfer on July 26, 2011, 04:16:08 am I have no idea what makes those all different... if there IS any difference, Died. Long as I end up with a set that looks the same, I'm happy. Gonna take my time finding the remaining four, 'cause I don't need 'em for a year or so.

Another thing to look for is differences in the center hole for the hub. The earlier wheels have the "flange" as shown in the pic of two wheels with tires. I also have seen wheels with a sort of "bulge" around that hole. I assume they're later, but not sure. I may have one, but cannot remember. None of my wheels were space-saver spares. I've never noticed the completely flat center hole like on the brown spare wheel. Title: Re: Wanted: 356C/911/912/914-6 steel wheel Post by: javabug on July 26, 2011, 13:49:13 pm Here's one.
