Title: New Spun Aluminum wheels (DDS look-A-Likes)
Post by: deano on May 12, 2011, 16:29:07 pm
Here is their web site for these wheels. Not a lot of options for widths and offset, but the 4s and 6s should work for most street cars.

http://www.usawheeloffroad.com/

I plan to use these wheels on the street most of the time, and keep the DDS wheels for special shows....

Custom Metal Spinning does a good job too and open to custom sizing though I'm not sure about 13's  but wouldn't surprise me.  Best known as CMS

Thanks for the tip Deano, I was looking for a pair of 6's to mounts some DOT's on. I can't keep driving on race weight Erco's and
slicks  ;D

Deano showed me these wheels last week, and placed them next to his original DDS pie-pans. Very close!

A very high-quality wheel. 8)

Walter is great people -- He custom made the front and rear rims for the Fiat -- He does the ERCO rims -- but he can do almost any thickness and he makes a ton of rims for ATV's and stuff

He also did the rims on Borden's Fiat too

Deano what were the specs on the wheels you got, as far as

-Offset....std is 2", I assume that means positive, or towards the outside of the rim
-Widths....15x4 and 15x6?
-Lug holes....14mm ball seat?

Why, is he not married?

Mike, the new 6" rim has a 4" back spacing. The 4" rim has a 2-1/2-inch back spacing (same as the DDS). I don't have my DDS 6" wheel here, so I can not compare it right away. But I think the U.S.A. Wheel has a slightly greater back spacing. I also noticed that the U.S.A. Wheels have a more noticeable lip on them, which shows up when you mount them with a 135 tire. I am using 12mm studs in front, and 14mm studs in the rear.

Thanks Deano.

So it seems with the backspacing on these wheels, everything will fit OK (tuck under) in stock VW fenders with stock suspension components (no narrowed beam, etc).

So with the ball mounts, you can use either 12mm or 14mm in the 14mm hole and it will center correctly.

Mike, Gary offers these wheels in both 12mm and 14mm stud holes. So, you must have the correct hole size and matching lug setup. My old '67, with a stock beam and brakes, had 4.5-inch DDS wheels with 135s with no problems. I am going to machine down the lips on all of these wheels before I use them...
