Title: pistons Post by: Cosme Tj on May 18, 2011, 05:44:47 am I have Wiseco pistons did cut to them for the valves but was made them above a fissure of the piston will show to the photos
the question to them is the following one I can use them with that fissure thus? it did not harm to me? or they recommend to weld the fissure to me (http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv220/zorravw/DSC06087.jpg) (http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv220/zorravw/DSC06083.jpg) (http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv220/zorravw/DSC06097.jpg) (http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv220/zorravw/DSC06092.jpg) Title: Re: pistons Post by: Torben Alstrup on May 18, 2011, 09:28:23 am Thatīs some serius notching :o
Those pistons are for doorstops now. T Title: Re: pistons Post by: Fastbrit on May 18, 2011, 09:35:19 am Expensive scrap... :o
Title: Re: pistons Post by: BeetleBug on May 18, 2011, 09:54:15 am Wow, deep pockets for sure.
I would have welded them and afterwards smoothened all the edges before I gave them a go. Title: Re: pistons Post by: SSRT on May 18, 2011, 11:12:33 am Gas port!
No problem, have used pistons with similar pockets before Title: Re: pistons Post by: Udo on May 18, 2011, 11:53:02 am I think you need some other pistons with a bigger head . I have welded this ones , it is not easy to weld but after i though about that it could work as a gasport ..

Title: Re: pistons Post by: TexasTom on May 19, 2011, 00:31:42 am I hate to say I don't think they'll work well for long.
The thinnest part of the cut will enlarge the hole and not work as a gas port so much as it will damage the ring and possibly the cylinder. I think I'd look for a new set. :-\ What size are the valves you're running? ... Just curious ... Either way, Good luck! Title: Re: pistons Post by: dangerous on May 19, 2011, 22:22:53 pm I would not "knowingly" fit a piston with a hole like that,
but I have disassembled a perfectly perfoming engine that had 'holed' there. Since then I only notch to as deep as the first land is high, and ALWAYS USE A RADIUS IN THAT LOCATION!! I also set up a simple tool to measure the minimum thickness in other parts of the piston. The way that notch has been done, it is likely that a piece will break away at some point, so best would be start with a new set. If you need more piston to valve clearance there are many other ways. And yes, I have personally run them like that before without issue.
