Ron ran 9.98 and 9.96 and the best 60ft times to date. Ron beat Roger in the final. After the race. Ron cut off his pony tail on the starting line, (remember when Don Garlits shaved his beard when he ran his first 6!). Another huge moment was when Lauffer raced Calabrese in the second round of qualifying. Lauffer ran 8.29 to Calabrese's 8.49, for the quickest side-by-side VW Bug race ever! Awesome race, great weather.... finally.
