Title: What bugs you about your own car.
Post by: edcraig on June 01, 2011, 04:56:25 am
Mine was the camber of my rear wheels.  I liked the height, but it sat so low that even with IRS I had more camber than I liked.  Plus the suspension was bottomed out in the rear.  It was like looking at a crooked picture on the wall.  It bugged me!  All I could see is those squatted rear wheels.  I finally had to do something about it so I adjust the rear torsions down one notch.  The camber is much better now and I even have some suspension in the rear, so a better ride too.  However the additional height made my rear tires look huge compared to the 155/60-15's in the front.  Having created a new problem that needed fixing, I had to replace them with 145's to get the front to rear tire relation I wanted.  I really like the Conti 155's but the car needs to sit real low when using them.   Anyway..I'm now happy with the results, and have a pair of 155 Conti's for sale.  Less than 100 mles.

How much for the 155 tires and what profile are they in relation to a 145 tire, Ed? I may be interested in those.

Your Ghia looks great, by the way.

yes! Awesome ghia! Great job! What "Bugs" me about my car is the flimsy steering wheel and seats! How can you control a car good when your body is moving around and the steering wheel is flexing all over the place!
I love my low back stock seat look, but will be having them redone to stiffen them up a bit and hold me in place. Steering wheel will be replaced with I think a wood wheel.

155/60/15= 23.32"
145/15= 23.91"
135/15= 23.29

The Ghia does look good. I like a tall-ish front tire on a Ghia, you can stuff the wheel up higher, giving the illusion of it being lower :)

What bugs me about my car?  The fact it's not done... of course like my buddy Zach G. told me once, they're "never done until it's sold."  lol ;D

Here's a pic from another higher angle.  I agree, the taller 145 tires look better on the front of a ghia, but with the lower height they rubbed like crazy.  I think the 155's Conti's are much better looking tires.  Good tread pattern and I like the scuff bar on the sidewall.  I think they sit on the wheel better that the 145's too.  Tough call to go back to the 145's, but I think it was the best option with the slightly higher sitting car.

I pics of the 155's.  If I could have fixed the rear camber issue W/O raising the car, I would have preferred to stick with them on the front.

Rebound stops will fix that dangerous situation. ;)
Pete at Funkenblitz posted some pics ages ago on the club blog I believe. If you race it is likely to bowl you over.  :o

I never go fast with the car (1200 inside  ;D), but sometimes I play with it in roundabout, pretty fun you know...  ::) but the three wheels was especially due to the small front tires with a lot of grip. Now I run 145/80 and this is way better  ;)

I can't stand the state of my interior. It is soon time to make the car comfy and enjoyable to be inside.

1. old paint/windshield
2. drum brakes (pull, out of adjustment too often)
3. noisy inside
4. thumpy ride below 45mph
5. general feeling like I could die in this car too easily.

After I redid all of the interior, it doesn't smell like a VW inside anymore. Also, I hate how the EMPI steering wheel shocks me.

My front end is completly peppered with chips
My engine is also not completed (but will be soon)
