Title: Axle movement Post by: Lee on June 18, 2011, 14:17:53 pm Hi,
I've recently changed the gearbox in my Oval for a later one(from a '68) and have fitted the shorter axles from the original box to it. It is currently bolted onto the floorpan minus the wheels and backing plates etc. My query is. Is it ok to be able to move the passenger axle in & out half an inch or so, or will this movement be taken out once it torqued up? Yes when you refit your back plates, bearings and bearing cap, then torque the castle nut the play will be no more. :) Title: Re: Axle movement Post by: Dougy Dee on June 20, 2011, 12:33:17 pm Be careful moving those axles as the fulcrum plates can drop behind the axle spades and block them. (They are a bugger to repair without removing the trans.)
Now I always install the backing plates, spacers, bearing and seal cover before flipping the trans and completing the other side. |
