Title: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: sven on June 18, 2011, 21:10:50 pm Hi Everybody,
Yes I’m still alive. As the most of you know I have been very busy with training this winter for my second hobby ( bike racing) but off course we didn't sit still with the Gemini, Christoph (PROFORMANCE) and me did so many changes to the engine to find the last pony’s, '58 carb's went to Gene Berg to get there special flow threat, New VW paradise pistons to get higher compression, new exotic custom cam, 1.6 rockers, a lot of hours shortening the intake collectors, maximum head porting, shawn Geers Vacuum pump, result is 85 litres through the Carb's. Tomorrow we gone start it up and next week dyno, last year we got 285HP and 10.38" I'll keep you updated from this year results. Are you racing @ EBI? Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: SPRasmussen on June 19, 2011, 06:01:05 am Looking forward to hear how your wacum pump reacts ones you race it... I'm a little lost on mine ???
Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: sven on June 19, 2011, 06:18:09 am Yes I will race at EBI, offcourse 9" will be not possible over there
Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: nicolas on June 19, 2011, 10:45:02 am Yes I will race at EBI, offcourse 9" will be not possible over there better not try it there if you only got bycicle experience (2 wheels) and not an aviation brevet (no wheels)... it will be good to see it run though Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: Jesse Wens on June 19, 2011, 10:57:27 am nice job, looking forward to see you at EBI and SCC
Ill be cheering for the niner. jesse Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: sven on June 19, 2011, 11:05:24 am Sorren,
Did you measure the Vacuum? We both reduced the AN16 plumbing to AN12, allready asked Shawn if that can be the problem? Sven. Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: SPRasmussen on June 19, 2011, 13:22:50 pm Yeah, I don't have much pressure at the system. JPM said that I should make sure that the oil pressure stays over 4 bar, and it did.
On the dyno I had no problems, and it gave close to 10hp before the dyno got destroyed, so maybe even more. It's when I race it the problem comes... ??? Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: vintagewagenwerks on June 19, 2011, 13:41:46 pm Hey ,very nice engine looks great ,the dates seem amazing, but can some tell me what the vacuum pump do at the engine,i´ve sometimes saw this at pauter engines etc but never realized for what it using.
Thanks for any info . Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: sven on June 19, 2011, 15:09:34 pm Breaking in the cam
Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: sven on June 19, 2011, 19:35:22 pm Ok, breaking in cam wit single valve springs is done.
We removed the heads, mounted the double valve springs and mounted everything again and.... wonderfull sound @ 8000RPM ;) Thx. to my mechanic Christoph - PROFORMANCE !!!! Tommorow we will connect the vacuum pump and test it an then wednesday to the dyno. Sven. Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: SPRasmussen on June 19, 2011, 20:06:24 pm Good luck on the dyno Sven, I have a tropic going on at the Ultimate on the wacum thing, so there are couple of small things I need to try before giving up ;)

Thanks for any info . Me too. I suppose it's to avoid pressure in the case or something to help with a dry sump? If anybody could teach us about that ... ;) Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: roland on June 21, 2011, 10:55:18 am My understanding is that vacuum pump = no air in the case = less friction on the crank, the rods etc & less resistance on the pistons = more hp.
Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: vintagewagenwerks on June 21, 2011, 12:29:37 pm where is this pump conected to ,how does it work with the vacuum the air must be coming outside.

Like a breather I suppose. As this pump is use on very Hi Po engine, by the hole of the generator stand or gas pump. Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: vintagewagenwerks on June 21, 2011, 20:35:47 pm however it´s a very intresting issue, maybe the builder of the engine will give us a reply about it´s working,we all curious for it.

Awesome work ;) Good luck on the dyno today - looking forward to meet you guys again (SCC-'11 & Das Drag Day) BR Anders Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: BeetleBug on June 22, 2011, 08:44:26 am Yeah! Good luck guys and keep us informed.
See you soon! Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: Udo on June 22, 2011, 20:43:11 pm Our Sven's type 4 engine had 315 hp last time on the dyno . still looking for a type1 that has some more :)

This evening we went on the dyno @ Pat's and after a few runs we had to stop due to big problems with the vacuum pump.. it's pulling shit loads of oil out of the engine, so we did some whipping and cleaning! Also the wires and electronical stuff suffered a lot of problems due to the oil leakage.. we could just manage a few runs by changing the settings on the carb's and ignition. Have to figure it out and will check the complete engine tomorrow! Keep you guys up to date.. Cheers, Christoph Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: vintagewagenwerks on June 22, 2011, 23:18:13 pm ok now we know what the vacuum pump is working for :P
I also join the other estimations ,this engine is a very awsome work. Can you tell us a bit more about the vacuum pump ,where is it connected and where does the pump bring the oil back to the engine ,we did not know anything about the function. So please let us not die to be dull. Did you run some pulls first on the dyno without the belt on to the pump? Cheers Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: bang on June 23, 2011, 07:41:02 am hey. as i see it you guys have the same vacum setup as sp. meby there is a reason geers and pat downs run the wacum pump with a an16 direct from valve cover to pump and then to a breather box. and if the engine can pull in falsh air it will suck out all the oil. make shure you have no leak. take the star machine can off run it over with the car and make direct hoses. make shure the oil pressure is over 3,5 bar at all time. if not put on a autocraft 1,5 stage pump so you can suck the oil out of the valve cover.

I would let it run without vacuum pump . It sounds like the pump pulls out oil wich is important for lubrication . also i have heard about , if it is too much it can pull out the oil of the bearings Udo Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: leec on July 03, 2011, 22:53:28 pm Hi Sven,
could you tell me about your rear suspension set up, obviously raised rear end but how have you done it? Lee Title: Re: Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt Post by: SPRasmussen on July 04, 2011, 08:00:13 am Leec, about half way down on our site you get the idea:
