Title: Vintage fuel pump block off plate- looking for ideas for new project motor Post by: Troy Palmer on July 29, 2011, 06:02:38 am Looking to rework a new project motor with vintage and period correct components like Empi IDA manifolds, Empi linkage/ u brackets, early cast valve covers, cast breather box, Santana pulley, empi stamped coil strap and drop brackets- but I can't find anything period correct for the fuel block-off plate. What has everyone else found that's period correct from 1967 to 1975? Anything cool thats ribbed or cast? No CNC please.
Thanks Troy Palmer Title: Re: Vintage fuel pump block off plate- looking for ideas for new project motor Post by: Zach Gomulka on July 29, 2011, 06:18:32 am I was looking for something like that when I was building AssHull's 1915, I had to settle on the cast unit with a breather boss that's available just about anywhere.
I guess the answer is that most engines used a stock fuel pump back then(?). I've never paid much attention to the plates. Maybe I just drove up the price on my next purchase!

He shot me a photo of the BMR fuel and oil bypass pieces for sale on Samba. They may be old- but they look to CNC to me. Thank you Richard for keeping your eye's open. Title: Re: Vintage fuel pump block off plate- looking for ideas for new project motor Post by: deano on July 29, 2011, 16:36:30 pm I would still use the Bakelite piece, then hand-make a steel plate (1/8 or 3/16-inch thick) on top. Trim the studs to the correct length, and use stock sealing nuts. Don't make it too pretty...

I like the idea- I might round up the parts to make the vintage fuel pump sandwhich to see what it looks like. Troy Title: Re: Vintage fuel pump block off plate- looking for ideas for new project motor Post by: NAO on July 30, 2011, 05:20:15 am [attachment=1]
I always like fuel pump block off plate with breather hose fitting off set from case studs holes. Now a days, they are all in one line. Don't make it too pretty... the VW factory waterboxer blanking plate would work nice with this (I run just the waterboxer plate on my motor) Title: Re: Vintage fuel pump block off plate- looking for ideas for new project motor Post by: 70slooker on August 02, 2011, 05:09:34 am i noticed that in the picture with fleming aronson and thurber kneeling with the white 63 kinda looks like the set up dean was talking about was in full effect
