Need to get a good electric fuel pump for my 1915cc. It'll need to serve 2x  40IDF today, but a set of IDA's in the future  ;D

Got a Holley 1-4psi regulator, but is the Holley red pump any good? Should I choose waterfilled or empty pressure gauges? (mounted in engine bay)

This is the one I use and I really like it.  It is quiet unlike he darn Holley Red pump I used before this.  The Holley was rubber mounted and still shook like crazy and made a lot of noise.

hi bug66, there's a lot to be found about fuel pumps on here. but what it basically comes to down to is that there are big, loud pumps that NEED a regulator and there are quiet, smaller pumps which suit our application perfectly too.

especially since you have IDF's I wouldn't waste any money on a large Holley, Mallory or any aerospace shuttle pump. if I'm not mistake IDF's only want 2-2.5 psi fuel pressure and these pumps put out 7-9 psi, way too much. perhaps you're looking at these pump because of the plumbing you have in mind? rest assured, IMHE, AN or NPT thread plumbing is just as likely to leak as fuel hose clamps when done incorrectly.

instead, why not look at the CB pump Don mentioned, or a Facet pump? I can cope with some noise, and will of course mount on rubber. I'd like a good one, that will serve both IDF's and IDA's.  I don't think I'm going with a Facet, too many have used it and will not recommend them.

It will be wired in with a relay, so no worries there. It will also have a regulator, so I can tune if perfect.

the noise is just a by-product, it's the sheer fact that those large pump are way overkill and a waste of money. most of them don't regulate internally so they'll be revving up to 9 psi and you're pulling the handbrake all-day to keep the pressure at 2.5 psi.

i had a Holley go sour on me after only a few months of keeping the pressure down at 1.5 psi for the kadrons i had. you wouldn't believe the amount of fuel that squirted out when the pump blew out its bottom seal.

then again, these are just my few cents.

the stock one works pretty darn good as well and it is quiet...

Stock mechanical feeds my IDAs in 99% of street applications.

The IDA's on my 2110 use a factory mecahanical pump.  I think unless you're doing continual high rpm runs where you could empty the float bowls of the carburetors I don't think you "need" an electric fuel pump.  This is most often the case with a street car.

I know the stock pump could deliver enough, but what kine of electronic pump is good? That was my question.

so the carter is good and quiet, and holley is loud?

in my part of the world, i am not sure if you guys can get them in the USA, i can get japanese made Mitsubishi brand pumps, self regulated internally. now i dont know if they are the same or not, but they look exactly like the CB rotary pumps. quiet, compact and seems to last forever.

Go with the CB's ...I love mine it's quite and easy to mount.!...it's really a Carter pump that CB sells, I run the 5 1/2 and use a regulator with it to get 3 1/2 I know they sell the 3 1/2 but I wanted the option to run more if I ever need it .!

A buddy called me and gave me the same advice. Made a 700$ order from vwparts  ::)

Where did you mount it? Relayed it? Pics?

If you use an electric pump, make sure you add a relay to shutoff the pump if the engine stalls. It's a safety thing.

I myself run the Mallory pump, not too noisy, put the pump that kaferdog is running IS nice AND quiet. They have the 3 1/2  and the 5 1/2 if want to run a reg. His motor is running IDA's and does not starve for gas whats so ever. And his HP im guessing is around 180. You can still run braided line if ya do it right, Kaferdog did, all nice and tidy.
