Title: Do my ears deceive me?
Post by: bugnut68 on September 08, 2011, 17:06:36 pm
Not sure if I'm the only one that's experienced this, but for some reason my 2017 doesn't seem to sound as "mean" as I would have expected or hoped... it may be due to a number of factors, such as my compression (8.6:1), or maybe I'm just too close to it to be able to really hear it, if that makes any sense.  Anybody else experience this?  I've got a baffled stinger on there right now as I need to have my Dynomax muffler's flange re-clocked in order to fit my car, and the funny thing is the stinger is quieter with this engine than it was with my stock-valved 1776!  Lol... I can only assume that it has more exhaust velocity going through it helping to increase the baffle's muffling effect?  I dunno.
Just curious if it's my ears, my combo or if anyone else has experienced this.

There's things I can hear that remind me of what's in there, but the absence of straight cut gears by my own choice may have something to do with it.  My 1776 had them, didn't need them, but I bought them with plans to upgrade THAT engine... ultimately I ended up selling the engine to help fund this build...lol.  Irony.  Maybe the gear whine has a subliminal effect on one's psychosis..;D

Don't get me wrong, the engine sounds great, but I thought maybe my head was playing tricks on me. Lol.
