I am running 145s, but I know a lot of folks are running the Conti 175/55 I think which is about the same height as the 145. Its off the smart car or the US spec Mini. (Cant remember which)

At the pic you can see a 175/55 tire, itīs the smart reartire, it drives very good but you have to lower a lot to get the tire to the fender!
My Alternative i drive now is the 155R15 Vredestein Sprint Classic, drives good too!

Any pictures of the 155 Vredsteins on the front of your car?  I am considering changing to them from 145s.

Thanks!

Mmh, i've got 6 of those vredestein 155s in the garage cos they are standard on dutch beetles.
But i was so glad to mount 145 firestones, i liked the look a lot better.

Dunno but they are slightly too high for my liking  :-\

HI Guys and Gals

Newb to the forums.  I've got a 68 K.Ghia (thus my username) that has an adjustable front end.  I've got 145's now on the front.  Will the 165/65 fit without rubbing?  I'm not sure what the offset of the rim is.

Title: Re: 165 front tires
Post by: Sarge on May 31, 2007, 01:11:00 am
I'm in the 145 X 15 camp.  All the complications of CSP disc brakes, CB dropped spindles, 2" narrowed beam, two different front fenders and my FAT ass on the left side of the car (naturally, the fender with the LEAST amount of clearance is on the left ::)), left me no other choice.  I tried some Conti 175/60's...they rubbed.

145s are my first choice, of course.  But, man the pickings are starting to get a little thin for nice ones!

That's the problem, they're getting dang expen$ive.  Even the Firestone F560s.

If only they made that Vredestein in a 145 it would be prefect.

The Firestones arent bad, but the Vredestein's have one damn ugly tread pattern.

I think the Vredestein is a rather classic-looking tread.  I am using a 155 as my spare, so I'll see how it compares.  That's not a bad price on the 'Stones still.  Maybe I'll order a set to hide away for a while.

Anyone seen Klebers lately???

Title: Re: 165 front tires

I will be getting 2 of the XZX's for the '67. Still undecided about the rears though. I would like something like a 185/70R15 but I may end up running a 205/65R15 just so the brands at least match.

Atta boy, Louis...step UP!!  I like the 205/65 idea out back, too ( I know, 205/70 is well loved here as well).  When your doing your deciding, check out the treadwear numbers...most are around 400 or so.  Bill Schwimmer got me looking at Pirelli P6's (treadwear around 180...soft, better hook-up) but unfortunatly there are/were two different P6's.  The ones I wound up with are about 380 treadwear...FIGURES! :'(

Got my 155 today, it doesn't look much different than a 145, without having them side by side to compare.  Plus the tire joint happened to have the Vredestine Classic in 205/70-15 mounted up in the showroom.  Me likey...but they are expensive when you get to the bigger sizes...

165-15 = $89
185/70-15 = $121
185-15 = $137
205/70-15 = $244   :o :-\

Standard beam with adjusters running 5 inch BRM copies

Title: Re: 165 front tires

Would work better with a 2" beam.

Title: Re: 165 front tires
Post by: RIP356 on August 05, 2014, 10:54:54 am
Ive rebuilt the beam and fitted adjusters with 356 drums.
I might have to use the Verdestein 155's
But would prefer to use 165 with matching 205's on the back
I just need to know if the 165x65 will rub on a lowered beam?
Thanks

Title: Re: 165 front tires
Post by: Zach Gomulka on August 05, 2014, 15:19:24 pm
The tires are short enough that you shouldn't have clearance issues with the fenders (depending on how low you have the adjusters set). Think about how a standard 145 tire looks on BRM's with an adjustable beam (a very common setup since the beginning). The BRM's push the tires right out to the edge of the fender. I do not think a 20mm wider tire will look good in this situation.

Title: Re: 165 front tires
Post by: Donny B. on August 05, 2014, 15:31:21 pm
I ran 155s on standard width beam with adjusters.  I had a bra on the car and when I hit a bump it would dislodge the bra.  They are going to rub.  I had to narrow my beam 2 inches to get back to stock clearance when i switched to dropped spindles.  The BRM offset will create a problem.
