Title: Front Flashers/Indicators on Euro '58
Post by: RichardinNZ on October 14, 2011, 06:05:26 am
I'm feeling too vulnerable driving the '58 in traffic with only the semaphores, so I'm fitting a unit (from VWJim in the UK) that will allow me to wire up my brakelights to work as flashers and also to install some front flashers.  I'm looking at adding some bulbs to the euro headlights in a similar position to the extra bulb in the US spec lights.

Can anyone tell me how these fit; what is the bulb holder like?  Is it similar to any other holder I may find elsewhere on a euro/NZ/Aussie Bug?

Many thanks

Richard

Hey Richard, on my oval-window, I went low-buck. I used a pair of dual-filiment bulbs and filed off one of the little pins on the side of the bulb. The pins are off set, so remove the one that is not at the same position as the original bulb. I soldered a short length of wire to the contacts on the bottom of the buld and used male push-on connectors so that the stock parking lamp wiring was not modified. The headlamp buckets needed no modifications! The bulbs I used were #1157A . . . the "a" means the bulbs are amber colored. The bulbs worked like that for ten years!
