Title: Adjustable cam gears Post by: Jon on November 01, 2011, 12:50:23 pm I would like to hear your opinions on this, I have a cam-gear I would like to use, but I am missing the "beanshaped" washers that dictate the degree of advance/retard. Can I use regular round washers instead and adjust after normal practise by way of indicator gauge?
Or is the clamping force not enough to keep it pinned down? Title: Re: Adjustable cam gears Post by: Jon on November 02, 2011, 10:15:56 am No one has even tried it? ???
Or is the question just too stupid to answer? :) Title: Re: Adjustable cam gears Post by: Torben Alstrup on November 02, 2011, 12:06:23 pm If you install it off center (0) you would have to use the bean shaped washers. Or the gear will move to the side with no trust over a short period of time.

Or is the question just too stupid to answer? :) No stupid question at all,i've done it more then once... Just set your timing with a regular washer ,then take the cam out ,put it on the mill and install minimum 2 small shuffle-pins to keep the camgear in position. Then you just torque the 3 bolts with regular good quality washers, and use some green loctite. Another advantage of doing it this way is you can adjust your timing for 100%,with the 2° or 4° washer you're not always "spot on" ;) Best regards Steve www.stevesvwshop.be Title: Re: Adjustable cam gears Post by: Jon on November 03, 2011, 21:55:55 pm Thanks for the answers! The last time I built a motor, I made the beanshaped washers I wanted, but it took me a good few hours. Was hoping to avoid it this time.
