Title: Berg 42 DCNF,s and venturis
Post by: TomR on May 23, 2007, 08:42:52 am
I have a set of Berg 42,s - and now have 34mm venturis, i looked at Berg ENT webpage for larger ones - but could not find them larger than 34.. I sent Berg an mail and they should check with their supplier.

Anyone know if there are bigger ones on the marked - i have a 2007 with 40 x 37 Scat mini D port and 1 1/2 exhaust and my first thought is that 34 is small!! i bought a complete set of jets through "revestreker jets" and have a wideband lambda - so i guess the jetting will be pleasant work - but 34mm....what do other people go with on their 2007?

I dont think theyre made any bigger. You can have them machined out though.

I better go with what i have for now - just was courious what other use - i dont belive everyone in here go the IDA way  ;D

Been trying to search some info on Google too - to see similar engines, but people write 42 DCNFs - but dont say anything about their jetting and venturis :)

Ahhh....thank you so very much!

I have this combination:

78 crank
5.4 H beam
Scat Mini D port 40 x 37
1 1/2 Berg exhaust
K 8 camshaft
009 with Compufire unit
Berg 42 DCNFs with 34 venturis

I guess you had 34 venturis too - or did you machine them out?

Best regards
Tom R Berg

Carburettors are in the car and running - but i have a problem getting a low idle. I have checked for leaks, using LM-1 to read the values in the exhaust.

Car is excellent on the road - but too rich - 11.0 - but when i hit the pedal it reads 12.9 (so main and air are spot on). When adjusting the values up on idle to 14.0 i get a idle at 1200 rpm with the idlescrews OFF the butterflies - i have 30 degrees advance @ 3000 with the strobelight and engine seems to like it there (Running a 009 with compufire module) - but WHY cant i get the idle lower...

I use 60 idle - but get the same results on 55 and 50...i want the AFR to be close to 14 - 14.2 - have anyone had a issue like this - i have gone through the carburettors that are close to new and checked, rechecked and they are all clean and i have changed all gaskets to be sure to avoid leaks. Fuel pump is a original VW - no regulator - would floatheight cause issuses like this - the only thing i havent checked since engine perform excellent on the street..

what linkage are you useing?  I would disconect the linkage from the carbs and see if the idle changes you also might have an intake leak spray a little wd40 around the manifold to head gaskets

The Berg linkage are disconnected when i do the tuning - changed the manifold to head gasket last evening - will try to spray again? But why wd40, startgas must be better to see if the "idle" raise?

startgas can catch fire spraying it close to the plug wires  I always use a small amount of white grease on my intake gaskets it keeps the gaskets from sticking to the head or manifold and seals better.

Ahhh...in that way - i understand. Seems like i did a big mistake when i pulled out the chokes and replaced it with a block off without any modification to the curcuit - chokes mounted back in - will start up tomorrow and test - i will keep u updated - thanks a lot so far  :)

you cant run the block off plates without the Mods to the carb there s nothing to hold the plungers closed, when Bergs builds the 42 Berg Specials he takes the plastic hold down rings and springs out and taps the holes and use an 1/8 inch pipe plug to hold the plunger closed.

For now i put back the chokes to get it running correct - that should work for now - but now i have issues with dripping acc. nozzles...All parts are new - and seems like the ramp in some way are being activated - byt must be the axialplay doing it (new throttleplates are ordered). After this issue is fixed i will look at the modification.

the mods are not to hard to do but you need to use two different 1/8 pipe taps one tap will need to be cut down since taps are all tapered you cant get the pipe plug to tighten enough because of the tapered hole so you have to chase it with the modified shorter tap that has some of the tapered cut off, when cutting the tap down make sure the threads dont get screwed up or you will  waste the carb bodys I have Done every set of 42 and 44 Dcnf's I have ever owned just my 2 Cents cause I spent the Rest ;D ;D
