Title: Turbo Thomas T1 and TIV exhausts, good news
Post by: Frallan on November 14, 2011, 02:52:50 am
I have been buying Turbo Thomas products for some years and initially I had some wishes of improvement.
Richard Thomas as his name is, has never disapointed me on listening to his Customers and my input.
Today he has a pretty wide range of products and also in a price range that is very competitive.
I know how to compare as I have myself bought from CSP, BAS, A1 and Gene Berg.
Apart from that I use to build my own VW merged racing systems (70-80´s) and I know pretty well what is good an not.
Check out his website.
http://www.turbothomas.com/

He will also build in almost any diameter although bespoke system will take some more time.

I am right now buying my third system from him, a 1 5/8" sidewinder for my TIV.
Price range almost half to comparable CSP products and the quotes I get, are always including shipping to Sweden.
Good stuff!

A good friend of mine had a turbo thomas system on his type 4 engined split bus, and it was so heavy it pulled the studs out of the head. Pretty sure he had it strapped too.

Have you ever had a complete stock exhaust system in your hands ?
I´lll bet that was not the problem. More likely is crispy heads or lousy/wrong studs. I have seen it all.
That said, the larger performance systems should be supported elsewhere too. And they are.

Just to share a little bit more, this is the first custombuilt 2" Richard did for me.

This is the latest 2" with a Burns collector.

The heads on my old 2056 were built by the same t4 expert as SBs, and my studs pulled as well...

Same exhaust on different heads and I have no problems.

Turbothomas headers look nice :)   I am also going to get header from him, for type 1. Stepped header, first 450mm 1 7/8" then rest 2", only £450  with shipping.

Did Engine Analyzer give you the size and lengths needed?

That is same thing. He works extensively with simulations......and proving them on the various teststands and then finally on the track.

OK!
Here we go with the delivery of my latest purchase.
Looking good on picture.
Note the flanges at the head.

This verion does not use any stubs, as specified by me.
My engine is stock stroke and stock length of rods.
Looking good!

Mayebe it is seasonal but three weeks on a special order sounds very OK to me.
Now a lot of stuff is probably improving with this guy as he gets more in to the business.
I do remember much longer times on my previous exhausts.
I also believe he is making templates and a lot of standard material in flanges etc. This lowers delivery time.

Anyway, I am not going to say more until I see my own stuff and then try it out.

I hope my main message has has been clear, I have bought now three times and every time most of the relations and the quality of the work has improved.
Now it is you who should add on with your experience.

Thanks Richard!
I am not disapointed. It came out really nice.
Detailed merged collector. Super welds in and out.
Nice flanges and the springs for the collector, just my taste.

Just tested the exhaust and it just slips on very nice.
For sure a lot of value for my money and I will not hesitate to warmly recommend Richard TurboThomas to others.

Ahh, I can give one advise of improvement for Customers like me being abroad away from UK.
Richard, if you can standardise supplying the Customer with a AWB tracking number at time of shipping, this is little extra work but will add a lot of value to us.
Just demand it from your shipper, he should give it to you and if he cannot, shop around for others.

Happy New Year everyone!

And this is my repeat solution for muffler. This is the old stainless Swedish Ferrita (wrapped) but now I will switch to a Flowmaster 50.
Then a CF straight flow end muffler exciting the body to dampen it even more.

Yes it is fixed pretty good.........and supported with a link in to the gearbox and then a rear support bar.
Because of the fixed exit hole? Or why that statement?

Just to clairify the pictures you look at, they are from my 2,7 installation and previous to that a 1915 cc.
I am posting some of my older pictures that I think you will recognize from other forums.

So the setup is proven and works good both on the street miles and track events in the past three years.
I will only change the muffler from a Swedish to the Flowmaster 50.
