The California Look Drag Day is a drag racing event based around the spirit of 60's and 70’s California, surrounded by fire breathing Aircooled racers and cal lookers held here in the UK at Santa Pod Raceway.

Racing is open to flat four VW Engined vehicles that are capable of completing a 1/4 mile in under 15.99 seconds, and spectators welcome along. There will be a show and shine on the Saturday and some of the quickest flat fours in Europe out on the strip on Sunday.

This event is ALL ABOUT THE RACING, aimed at the true petrol heads of the VW Scene. The camaraderie of fellow racers and the roar of the flat four is the entertainment, dressing up is strictly limited to race suits and helmets. Any dancing which takes place, is from inside the vehicle and involves a steering wheel and an attempt to launch in a straight line.

We hope to welcome as many of Europe's finest HOT VW's along to Sant Pod raceway for this, the fourth Annual Cal Look Drag Day - see you there!

How does the weather looks like in England at that time of a year? Wouldn't like to see rain after traveling more than 1000km there:)
What are the technical rules at this event - is it enough that a car is street legal?

Well obviously joking aside, I don't think there's many drag strips in the world that can guarantee good weather, however over the past few years Spring has seen the best of the years weather here in the UK.

As for tech. rules, the event is strictly speaking a RWYB, and open to street legal and race only cars alike. Santa Pod's standard rules & regs can be found on there website, but I copy them below for convenience:

RWYB Rules & Regulations

1. A full valid recognised driving licence is required to sign-on.

2. Seat belt is mandatory for your own safety.

3. Helmets required for all bikes and open top cars, and any vehicles doing 110 mph or more at the finish line. Arm straps required in open top cars.

4. Bikers have to wear crash helmet together with appropriate motorcycle riding apparel. One-piece or two-piece zip-together suits are recommended, made from suitable materials. You may be suspended from using the strip if you are not appropriately dressed. T-shirts and shorts are not safe items to wear on the track.

5. Before you go on to the track you need to visit the signing on office to sign a declaration form and pay your signing on fee.

Aside from the above basic rules, suffice it to say that Drag Racing can be dangerous, especially as we get quicker and quicker. It is everyone's personal duty to ensure their own safety is catered for, and that of other drivers and spectators is not compromised.

A Faustian pact with the sun god Ra! I like your level of commitment! Who else is going to man-up lay and his cajoles on the line? Maybe a kidney for blue skies? A limb for a tailwind?  ;D
