Title: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Fast Eddie on December 08, 2011, 00:30:47 am How much should I expect to pay to have a set of 94mm type 4 barrels bored to 96mm? Any ideas?
Cheers Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Tobi/DFL on December 08, 2011, 08:39:59 am Hi Eddie,
club mate Otto and me asked some companies to bore some 94mm Type 1 mahle cylinders to 95mm and got quotes of ~60€ per cylinder incl. the honing. Tobi Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Basti on December 08, 2011, 10:44:24 am That is cheap!!
Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Jon on December 08, 2011, 11:06:14 am How many minutes would a 96 mm mahle stay round? Or is it hours?
Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Peter on December 08, 2011, 12:24:53 pm AJ Sims sells thick wall 94's,
maybe it can work? Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Zach Gomulka on December 08, 2011, 12:25:56 pm How many minutes would a 96 mm mahle stay round? Or is it hours? This is a road well traveled on type 4's, is it not? Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Jon on December 08, 2011, 13:39:45 pm My mistake, I missed the point about type4... I was thinking about type 1.
I will show myself out ::) Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Zach Gomulka on December 08, 2011, 14:43:22 pm A little off topic, but I've been wondering if a 96 bore could be shoehorned into a type one, reliably. Standard heads, of course. Gives you 2 liters without stroking!
Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Fast Eddie on December 08, 2011, 18:11:44 pm thanks for the replies guys. i have had a quote in the UK and it was £60 each cylinder. so not too far out then. thanks again. :)
Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Arnoud on December 08, 2011, 23:10:56 pm Armin Klein(TurboBoxer.de)charges 300Euro to bore/hone your barrels to 95mm. Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: Dr P. on December 23, 2011, 19:49:33 pm What is the standard procedure to bore the cylinders? I always thougth they were bored like inline engines, but then I saw a video where Harley cylinders were "bored" on a lathe and then honed the usual way. In case someone has done it on a lathe it would be nice to know what bits to use at what speed. I have a set of 90mm that will grow to 90,5 at some point to accomodate low crown type1 pistons. Since they need to be shortened anyway it would be convenient to also bore them on the lathe.
Title: Re: enlarging cylinder bores Post by: GetBackOnTrack on March 24, 2012, 11:50:45 am I bore cylinders in a special made jig in the lathe and hone them afterwards on my sunnen hone machine..
I charge 300 euroes for 4 cylinders... Check out GetBackOnTrack on facebook for info about the machine work I do, and feel free to contact me if you need any work done. Regards, Jakob Spring (GetBackOnTrack) |
