Title: Don't be "The Weak Wildebeest"
Post by: Rick Meredith on December 20, 2011, 07:06:45 am
About once a month we've been driving from So. Cal. to No. Cal. to visit my in-laws. My FiL is going through chemo and my wife, being an RN wants to check up on him.  We go up the 5 Frwy. which is miles of nothing once you get north of Los Angeles.

I like to use what I like to call "The Weak Wildebeest" technique to avoid speeding tickets. It's based on those nature shows where the lion (CHP) culls out the weak wildebeest from the herd (speeding drivers). The idea is I try to surround myself with weaker targets than myself. I find someone driving fast, let them get out a 1/4 or a 1/2 mile ahead of me and then I pace them.

On the way back home, I'm cruising about 80 and a Porsche 911 comes up behind me at a good rate of speed. I pull over and let him pass, then I turn to my wife and say "There's our Weak Wildebeest." Let him go then I wrap the car up to about 90mph (speed limit is 70mph) and set the cruise control. No more than 2 miles of this and I see the 911 on the brakes, so I get on the brakes. Under a bridge sits a CHP, I assume with a radar gun. In the rearview, I see him pull on to the freeway. Light's going, he passes me and pulls over the 911.

And that my friends is how not to be "The Weak Wildebeest."  ;D
