Title: Valve springs preventive change?
Post by: 181 on January 27, 2012, 15:48:03 pm
Is it wise to change the valve springs from preventive reasons? I´m going to pull my 2276 engine after two seasons (around 10 000 km and around 40 1/4 passes). Heads are basicly Steve Tims Stage 2 with dual valve springs, stainless steel valves. Cam is FK8 going to be changed for 86C, engine pulls to 6500RPM.

With engine out, should I change the springs for a new set?

Thanks,

Jan

I'm going to run 86C with a set of VW650 springs.

Springs need to be matched to lift of cam + rockers

Rockers will be the same - CB´s 1.4:1. FK8 and 86C have a very close, if not the same valve lift.

I would take them off and go to a machine shop to have them tested.

it can work, but in my opinion when the springs are 'set' for a cam, i would change them when you put in a new cam, i think they could break when subjected to higher lifts, faster ramps,...
