Title: Carb upgrade Post by: edcraig on January 30, 2012, 05:03:43 am It was finally time for a carb upgrade, but I wasn't quite sure what I wanted. I was thinking the spanish IDF's or trying to find some good used IDF's or maybe even IDA's. I even considered the 40 HPMX carbs. Anyway...I got lucky and found exactly what I wanted in some 42 DCNF Webers. I was very lucky to find a set of NOS carbs with air filters. I was considering getting some Deano manifolds and linkage, but ending up using Berg stuff. It does look a little clustered up on the shroud compared to the bell style linkage, but it works good. The carbs are fantastic. Big big improvement over the Solexes. I'm going to swap out the filters to the taller Berg versions at some point, but for now I'll use the ones I have. Don't see too many of the Johnny Speed and Chrome filters anyway. I now have some solexes/kadrons for sale if anyone is interested! ;-)

As I told you when I traded my 48 IDAs for a pair of 42DCNF9s all those years ago I was very pleased at how much more "street friendly" they were and really enjoyed the gas mileage improvement.

I always thought the Kadron/Solex carbs were pretty good, but the difference is huge. Power, idle are big improvements. They are extremely smooth, and have a great sound. Betting the gas milage will be better too.
Highly recommend them so anyone searching for a really good street carb application. ...Ed. My very first set of Webers were new 42 DCNF's back in the day, great carbs.

I've had them for a while but I'm waiting for the right Project to use them on. I will use them with a set of Berg 865 heads that I also have. Engine will most likely be a 1776. Glad the carbs work well!

Since the initial set up I've only had the make a few minor adjustments to the linkage. Just to improve the idle and carb sync. It was good from the start, but each adjustment seems to improve things. I'm going to drive it as is for a while before I touch the linkage again. It sure is a pleasure to drive now.
