Title: Re: piston ring gaps Post by: Fast Eddie on February 11, 2012, 09:51:50 am ok, so ive ordered some rings, and asked the supplier who is a typ4 "expert" in the UK and he advised setting the top ring to 25thou, and the second ring to 16thou. oil ring needs no adjustment normally... but the wiseco article states to that you should have a larger second ring gap than the top one, to reduce chance of flutter... hmmmm
any ideas anyone? cheers. Title: Re: piston ring gaps Post by: paul_f on February 11, 2012, 14:38:59 pm What rings are you using and what pistons?
I used hastings rings with my Keith black 96mm pistons, and the ring gap i used was .026" for the top ring and 0.016" for the bottom ring according to my book i kept all the measurements in. I think this was the recommendation from JR who I got them from. I have a box in the garage of another set of rings, that also has a recommendation on it, probably about the same. It is too cold to go out there today though ;D Cheers Paul Title: Re: piston ring gaps Post by: Fast Eddie on February 14, 2012, 11:53:21 am Hi paul,
Keith black and hastings rings as yours was! I shall gap them the same. Maybe that link I looked at is ok for a specific type, and not what I have. It just made me wonder what is correct, and worry about ring flutter... I checked my current ring gaps, and the top one is just under 1mm! |
