I believe it was purchased for a restoration, but the customer didn't dig the black. My understanding was they no longer made chrome (at the time) due to reflection issues ... same reason chrome wiper arms aren't found any longer ??? I found one that has a black stem, and a black plastic mirror head that has a pebble finish - much like a convertible mirror. It has the same shape as a stock mirror, and has the look I wanted.
