Title: running wheel adaptors on the front?
Post by: beetletom on March 26, 2012, 09:03:59 am
hi, my 66 has 4x130 disc brakes (as i can't find a good price on any wide 5 disc kits!?!)

and have just bought a set of bbt sprints, is it safe to use 4 bolt to wide 5 adaptors on the front...?

Airkewled is making a disk kit they claim is BAD, and that kit incorporates spacers/adapters.

I don't think it's such a bad idea, with clean mounting surfaces and 12.9 quality fasteners torqued to spec this should work perfectly. Note, Audi A4 97 model has LOOSE disk brakes clamped only by the wheel itself.

It's perfectly safe.  I've known several cars set-up that way.
You may have to use a thin spacer before you put the adapter on to clear the caliper.

Speak to Mike at Machine 7. He sold me a pair of adapters specially designed to use with 4 lug disc to convert to wide 5. Very heavy as made of steel but superb. Used 4 lug wheel bolts to attach adaptor to disc then regular wide wheel bolts. You will need to trim down the wheel bolts as if they are too long they will hit the caliper. I trimmed mine to be flush with the back of the adaptor
