As 1 of the 113 that looked I can honestly say i have never heard of "race fulcrum plates"  or the problem you are experiencing,as far as i am aware we have always used stock VW fulcrums,I am interested to see if you get a reply that positivley confirms such things exist, good luck with it

cheers richie

x2  its been years since I worked in a air cooled vw transmission shop, but even in the 90's early 00's never seen nor heard of "race fulcrum plates OR HD fulcrums "

Ok! finally 2 serius people!
So Many, many thanks for answering.

I can say i had in my hands a set of race made fulcrum plates couse actually i am using them in my present transmission. Those were a gift from a dear friend that has bought them somewhere long long time ago and now he does not remember where or by who, so he can not get others.
The fact is that theese plates seems more heavy than stock and this fact bring me thinking about hardened material, they even sound more hard when hitted eachother,  have rounded corners than shaved stock ones (which usually gets corners broken) and have two parallel grooves on plate surface to get easy lubrification to axles heads. I can definely affirm they looks heavy duty than stock, i had compared both types for long time before installing them.
The fact is that no online seller got this type of Hd plates in stock but somewhere once a time have had been forged.

Anyway if nobody still have dove, somebody should made them couse it seems i have resolved my disintegrating problem.
Only fact is that i would more of them for another race transmission.

Still waiting for advices or infoes.

Many thanks again to all.

Ok, it seems like i am talking about, but this is brazilian one made by volkswagen of brazil and that could be potentially what i am looking and chatting about. i will buy some of theese from this seller and than get a study about differences from stock and brazilian ones.

You might try talking to Rancho Transmissions... if they're available anywhere Rancho would have them.

Have you checked the clearance between the sidegear, axle and fulcrumplates? Most people NEVER check this. The sidegear is (or were) availible in three different sizes from VW back in the days, when the cars only had 50 hp.

Yes, i've checked and clearance is regular enought, i had installed a ZF limited slip diff and fearing that something in lateral shim diff is wrong
Couse i am fearing, after had read about Zf oprional installation vw maual that a little spacer had been added when passing from std diff to LSD. Anyway i will contact Rancho perf as suggested and check.
Anyway i suggest Zf Lsd installation to everybody, it can you things never done before. At EBI 4 it permit me to get a 8 shaped donut, four passes! And get inpressive stability in burnout and during race lounch.

Can you post a pic of the manual that shows this "little spacer"?

Have you drilled the extra oiling holes in your side cover that are needed for a ZF?

just a thought... fulcrums from a poorschaaa trans may be of higher quality materials, I remember the gears are... you might look in that direction...

Heres the Samba link about ZF diff. Enjoy!!

I know old 356 uses same Vw fulcrum plates, not different type.
Maybe later versions had better ones.
Anyway chatting with an Hawaiian friend Gino, i assumed that my axles pallettes are worn and need machining work and i need more thicker fulcrum plates to get right gap between them.

Is there anymore info on this other than what is in The Samba link illustrating the side cover with the oil hole?

No i don't couse when i had installed ZF i did not knows about hole. Anyway i had provided a good ventilation in nose cone with his provided hole. Anyway i do not understand why vw says to make that hole.

I used bardhal gear oil for LSD  transmission

i do not understand why vw says to make that hole.
It's to allow the oil to be able to get to the other side easier.  To lube the fulcrum plates better.  Isn't it obvious?

i don't think a lot of problems can and will be found on those plates, except that there is too much clearance and as a result they get banged up too hard and chip or chatter. and i really don't think you need a stronger material as the housing isn't harder as the plates.
there are fulcrum plates with a grove (which i have looked for , but never found myself), which are the original oversize plates from VW. maybe they are what you show in the picture, but i am not sure.

i would look at a good housing (gears) for the axles that have the right clearance with the original plates installed. especially since they seem to be so rare and therefore in my opinion not needed.
