Title: Engine 2332 cc vs 2387 cc Post by: Dan Ahrendt on July 07, 2012, 06:14:53 am Hello,
i have a question about 2332 cc and 2387 cc. It give often the 2332 cc , but what is pro + and contra - of this engines. I have not seen many 2387 cc. Can any one tell me more ? regards Dan Title: Re: Engine 2332 cc vs 2387 cc Post by: ibg on July 08, 2012, 05:07:07 am the 2332 uses an 84 crank which will always be less case clearancing than an 86 crank. BUT the rods have to be considered too, you have VW, Chev and Porsche rod journals of which Chev has the least clearancing to be done..... but the chev has the least overlap between the crank pin and the rod pin so less strength in the crank. This is why I think many high hp turbo motors use a 78 crank.
The other consideration is rod length VS engine width or custom pistons to keep the engine narrow. Everyone has their favourite combo's for each body style, $ to spend, labour/skill level and intended purpose. My road race Ghia (heavy) has 86 crank, 5.5 porsche journal rods and works well for my purpose (lots of torque needed) Title: Re: Engine 2332 cc vs 2387 cc Post by: neil68 on July 09, 2012, 02:59:00 am In my current 2332 cc, there is slightly less than 2 mm clearance between the crankshaft and some of the camshaft lobes.
I'm wondering if some 86 mm cranks might be too close, for some camshafts to be used.
