Title: BAE bob mc clure Post by: speedwell on July 16, 2012, 15:13:43 pm i've seen this car in photo album on the net , that one was at irwindale this w-e no one have info about this one
it look like the BAE of Bob mc Clure , with some little difference in the paint scheme , is this a copy of the BAE or the real one who's redone to his former glory ??? Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: richie on July 16, 2012, 15:32:39 pm Fabs
I noticed that as well, and being one of the 1st turbo cars to break the et records is something i am interested in,I beleive this is a clone, but am not 100% on that cheers richie Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: deano on July 16, 2012, 15:57:00 pm I believe the original car went to Hawaii...
Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: javabug on July 16, 2012, 16:14:17 pm Side windows look a little big, and primered roof says maybe the oval window was grafted to a later car?
Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: rick m on July 16, 2012, 19:23:01 pm The rear apron and quarter windows are late model. Definitely not the BAE car.
Rick M Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: speedwell on July 16, 2012, 19:46:58 pm for the rear apron i'm with you rick , but the deflector on the windows , look like a early model ,not late model and the door handle look an oval one not late model
the real BAE had a one piece windows kit Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: rick m on July 16, 2012, 20:29:49 pm Could not make out the paint line vs the quarter window that well. Could be an early but this is not the BAE car. I saw it up close and personal and this one hardly compares to it.

I know there's quite a few other cars in that collection, but do they ever see the light of day? I'm under the impression they're just sitting collecting dust these days, from other threads I've seen. Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: stoneloco808 on November 10, 2012, 18:59:29 pm I say rebook your plane tickets back to Hawaii again. Earlier posts suggested the BAE car made it's way to Hawaii back in the early 80's. Not sure if it was purchased prior to coming to Hawaii or it was bought while it arrived in Hawaii. Whatever the case it was bought by Bob Simpson of Pele Bug Ent.. The car supposedly was sold and shipped off to Japan, that is false. Bob Simpson has shut his shop down last year or so, selling off the machinery, equipment and whatever else was collected over the years. One of the things being sold was this BAE car to one of it's former employees.
Here is a youtube link of the car racing in Maui this past May. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNXRGxrvGpQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNXRGxrvGpQ) http://youtu.be/zNXRGxrvGpQ Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: speedwell on November 10, 2012, 20:53:46 pm awesome , thx for the link

These were taken on the ending of May '12. Funny thing is I noticed in one of the pics a "for sale".

Is the car for sale?...Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: rick m on January 21, 2013, 06:37:14 am Would be cool if someone restored this to the original motor configuration with the blow thru turbo set up that blew through early HILBORN 1600V type dual throttle body injection manifolds. That motor was incredible! I saw the car run at OCIR and Bob McClure did not even have a waste gate on the turbo.

It was also a pretty impressive little car for the size motor it was running. Ran in the 11's when I saw it with a small motor.

Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: stoneloco808 on January 22, 2013, 02:13:24 am Thank you Speedwell for posting a pic of the engine. I find it kind of amusing how the design of it is similar how some turbo engine builders still do today.
Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: Dominick Luppino on January 22, 2013, 16:16:49 pm It ran real hard in the day.
Title: Re: BAE bob mc clure Post by: rick m on January 22, 2013, 17:26:26 pm I remember some cars that came along in the years following the BAE car like the "DRAGONSLAYER" that were pan cars running in the 9's. Those guys were pretty impressive too. Especially when they were doing it without the injection. Those were some fun cars to watch. Dave Perkins, Spoke McClendon, Pat Nelson and others made fast pan cars a legend in the time. At a time when the normal VW drag car had a pair of 48 IDAs strapped to a big motor, the turbo brought in yet another era of VW drag racing. Who ever heard of all Steel VWs with floor pans running times like super gas V8 cars in the nigh 9's! That was an era I will remember as one of the real transition points for higher horsepower VWs being the norm at a VW event. All of this done without tube chassis, and mostly through type 1 trannys initially. :-)
