Title: Fire up a draw through turbo engine? Post by: Basti on August 02, 2012, 09:49:22 am Hi Guys,
how do you fire up your draw through turbo engines? My spark plugs are often too wet, and then the egine is not starting anymore ;-( Thanks, Basti Title: Re: Fire up a draw through turbo engine? Post by: Tekken on August 02, 2012, 10:25:30 am What type of carb do you use?

Title: Re: Fire up a draw through turbo engine? Post by: Hotrodvw on August 07, 2012, 02:14:05 am 1: That's a Huge Carb.........unless it's 100% drag, a 650 will suffice.
2: Long intake tract. A quick shot of Ether (Starting Fluid) will help it to fire and get the vacuum going to draw fuel Title: Re: Fire up a draw through turbo engine? Post by: jamiep_jamiep on August 10, 2012, 10:09:50 am When I first got mine it used to do this, my problem was I pumped the accelerator pedal while trying to start, and with 50cc acc. pumps it was just soaking everything. Now one or two pumps and hold the throttle steady open until it fires seems to work - I never need any spray or anything.
Mines a 650 DP btw. so not quite the same carb. Title: Re: Fire up a draw through turbo engine? Post by: dragvw2180 on August 10, 2012, 14:03:53 pm What do you have for ignition setup ? Have you setup everything on a dyno or wideband ? On my PRO OUTLAW car it fires up almost immediately but I am only running a 600 Holley double pumper w/mechanical secondaries. I unhooked the rear accelerator pump as it is not needed. I would NOT use starting fluid on a regular basis , matter of fact I have never needed it on my race car. I know you probably have a bigger engine ( mine is a 2387 /366 rwhp) that needs that much carb but it shouldn't flood easilly if set up properly. My carb is mounted sideways with the linkage facing toward me when I am standing behind the car. If your ignition system is doing its job , if the timing is set around 25 degrees , if the intake manifold is shaped properly so no low spots can collect fuel, if your secondary accerator is unhooked , if all the stars are in alignment then it should start right up, hahahahah Mike McCarthy
this is an old pic, I have changed carb since it was taken, (http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k300/dragvw2180/IM000256-1.jpg) Title: Re: Fire up a draw through turbo engine? Post by: Basti on August 25, 2012, 16:30:12 pm It was just the high torque starter...
