Title: '67 rear suspension Post by: louisb on June 21, 2007, 04:37:57 am I need some input for the rear of my '67. Target for the car is low 13a/high 12s and it will see mostly street use. What do I need to do it right the first time? I figure urethane bushings and SAW axles. Do I need heavy duty spring plates? Bigger torsions? Shocks? Oil, gas, adjustable? I know bus snubbers used to be the thing, but folks are saying that is a bad idea now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks, --louis Title: Re: '67 rear suspension Post by: Lanny Hussey on June 21, 2007, 14:41:18 pm 67's have pretty weak torsion bars from the factory. A 67 with high miles can be tough to dial in, especially a vert. With my latest build I installed new 26MM bars with no sacrifice in ride quality. I found that the bars didn't settle, so the position you install them is where they stay (this is why I had to drop it slightly when I had it in Socal) Sarge helped. ;) I'm now using new stock inner rubber with JCL outers. Urethane bushings can be noisy. Run stock shocks and spring plates.

I was using bus snubbers but went back to stock to get some suspension travel. The adjustable spring plates were purchased before the 24 mm torsions and I feel aren't really necessary with the stiffer bars as Lanny pointed out. BTW the only help I was able to give Lanny was with drinking his beer ;)

Title: Re: '67 rear suspension Post by: Lanny Hussey on June 23, 2007, 21:55:35 pm Oh boy, that's a good question. I built the pan with the 26mm bars installed the way I usually do with stock bars. This proved to be too high as the bars didn't settle. To drop it where it sits now, I had to start from scratch as the new bars don't 'sag' like the stock ones do.

They didn’t have them in stock, they had to get them from KONI. I took about a week. The price was about 80$ each (reds).

Title: Re: '67 rear suspension Post by: louisb on June 28, 2007, 14:28:37 pm Maybe they are, I don't know. Not sure on the color, this was a direct quote from the place Sarge recommended.
