Im fitting Recaro seats instead of stock front and keeping original rear seat. Both will be match trimmed, and would like to install harness from Simspon with camlock, something like this: (http://i46.tinypic.com/2i9pdsm.jpg) Seats will be in dark red leather (black late model from '70) and black Simpson harness would fit very nice, but I don't have idea which model ? Title: Re: Anyone running harnesses with stock seats, if so what have u got Post by: richie on October 30, 2012, 00:13:11 am We sell both length simpson harnesses, they do an extra long version just for what you mention to bolt to the floor behind the seat
cheers richie Title: Re: Anyone running harnesses with stock seats, if so what have u got Post by: deano on October 30, 2012, 00:13:41 am Simpson offeres different lengths depending on where the mounts are. Since the VW seats/mounts are so tall and up-right, you need a true floor mount in order to get the right length. I call Simpson and we figured out the combination over the phone, otherwise, your buckle won't be in the center of the seat. I did a story in Hot VWs about mounting seat belts with stock seats about '08-ish...

I recently installed an RLR roll bar, with "low-backed" front seat (from a '66), so the shoulder straps are now wrapped around the RLR cross bar. Both options are acceptable AFAIK at most tracks (I've been to five tracks so far, both NHRA and IDRA, with no problems). Simspon harness is unavailable for me in Croatia, that's why I'm asking for detailed information. It would be a mess for me to order a wrong item, not to mention high shipping costs and additional taxes that I have to pay... If anyone can post some pictures with measures, I would appreciate that ! Title: Re: Anyone running harnesses with stock seats, if so what have u got Post by: Doktor on October 30, 2012, 19:47:36 pm Before Recaros, I had VW Golf IV 25 years edition seats. They are not to big to fit in a bug, but lumbal part of the seat is a bit taller.
I sold them a few days ago, because lower part of the seats was to modern for interior of a bug with all the unnecessary plastic parts. Recaros are more old-school and will look nicer. I will shorten lumbal part of the seat for about 5 centimetres to dimensions similar to the ones on the picture (from Bernard Newbury Dark Lord oval), those seats look like they are modified the same way. But, Crow makes some good stuff as well. For those of us who need them to have the correct date, Crow will re-web your belts. This is a nice service to offer, saves buying new belts every two years.

Title: Re: Anyone running harnesses with stock seats, if so what have u got Post by: slammedresto on October 30, 2012, 22:20:29 pm front seats are a bit worn, thinking of putting in some classic buckets with 4 point harness, as its a 61 and has no belts or mount for belts, something like these will fit in with the nostalga sceme to the car
something like these, the back seat wont be used unless we all go out as a family, but if we do we would prob take the westy, so may even junk the rear seat completely, and make do with just the fronts (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d169/slammedresto/T2eC16dHJHgE9n0yHDnpBQhpyIFVw60_12.jpg) (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d169/slammedresto/T2eC16JHJGE9nm3plpbBQhpwRZw60_12.jpg) Title: Re: Anyone running harnesses with stock seats, if so what have u got Post by: slammedresto on October 30, 2012, 22:21:07 pm Hallo Gary,,you gonne make a 402 racer out of your new car ? whats a 402 racer??? Or are we talking extra length for the lap belts? Or are we talking extra length for the lap belts? More seat belt mount info here.http://www.schroth.com/installation-instructions/en/05_restraint_installation.htm They must sell a lot of 4 point belts kits? I'm not a fan of 4 point belts and here is why. A 4 point belt is missing the sub belt, the one that goes between your legs to the floor. The reason the sub belt is important is that it locates the lap belt. Without a sub belt when you tighten the shoulder belts it will pull the lap belt up and out of place. The correct way to tighten race belts is.. 1st connect sub belt and waste belts and tighten, then the connect the shoulder belts and tightened last. 2 types of sub belts 5 point and 6 point. A 6 point does not require a hole in the seat bottom, downside is you sit on the 6 point belts. I still prefer a 5 point... and a chair that will protect me if the car backs into the wall. Fwiw get a sub belt if possible. Or are we talking extra length for the lap belts? B Directly to the floor is a no go, but I think Richie means behind the back seat. As far as I remember, the angle between the the belt and the vertical should be at least 45deg, preferably more (closer to horizontal). My belts go through the gap in the rear seat beween the base and seat back, and bolt to a couple of spreader plates in the rear floor of the car. They're along the same line as the stock rear seat belt mounts but in a better position for each of the front seat passengers. When there are people in the back, the front belts are just used as lap straps.
