Cant recall any magazine features, but something in my head says pre 1986 hot VWs may have featured it. Tube front axle? It was definitely photographed in that era at events with wheels up. I think it might have been torsion bar at stock length then drop tube when it was stretched.

I seem to have lost my Jan 1986 issue of Hot VWs, but all evidence points toward this being the edition that featured Jim Larsen's "Elongated 1/4 mile Ghia" Wait til you see how beautiful it was!
