Title: I GOT THAT BLOODY BASTARD ON!!!!! Post by: 65bug on January 27, 2013, 00:17:21 am I got my torsion housing spring plate cover on over my grommet!!!! What a flippen nightmare. I am pretty sure I need new rubber grommets, as these are the originals from 1965!!!! Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of the different makes and materials of the grommets out there? My motor is over 150 HP I am sure. Anyone else running the bearing spring plate covers? I know Dominick said they work well, just wanting some more input.
Thanks ;D Title: Re: I GOT THAT BLOODY BASTARD ON!!!!! Post by: Taylor on January 27, 2013, 00:53:18 am You have to hand fit them into the cover. Also it is best to take the torsion bar out and fut the sping plate grommets and cover on and articulate the spring plate to make sure it's not binding.

Thanks for the tips! Yes, I had to jack the car up and put her back on jackstands! Then take my wheel off, then the other wheel. I pulled both covers off each side to compare the location of each torsion bar and the drivers side for some reason was cocked over to one side. So I pulled the spring plate back off, pulled the torsion bar out. Put it back in, then the spring plate on it without bolting it up to the axle housing! That seemed to make it much easier. Then, I loosed my e-brake cable all the way to get it back under the axle housing where it belongs. Two screwdrivers to line up the holes in the cover and I got it on. HA! HA!!!!!!!! However, my grommets I think could stand to be replaced. Or, Dominick suggested the spring plate covers with the bearings in them as to take out any play. Seems to make sense to me to keep things firmer and from hopping around as much. You go into something thinking it's easy................and it's a muther until you get the process down pat. Thanks Larry, I almost took a air grinder to that ----en grommet, but using 2 screwdrivers did the trick! Now both are on and I am a happy person. Just need to drive her a bit to see how I like it.
