Title: Any info on this 67? (Relic's 67)
Post by: Critter1 on February 22, 2013, 23:50:10 pm
Is there any info out there on this 67? I don't have any AIRMIGHTY issues to look at... This was taken at VW Bug Show in Spa, Belgium.

STRDRGN on the plate?

There's a lot of things I like about this car. One thing about T-bars that always bugged me was that they do not flow with the angle of the fenders. These do.. and I think it looks great. The Wide O's are cool, the QP's tuck perfectly, the stance, color, etc... I'm not a huge fan of the narrow beam though.

I know Art Gutierrez from the DKP used to display that plate on the rear of his metallic green 67 so dont know whether this car has any links to Arts car.

i think it'a porsche color

It looks like #415 Sepia Brown.

That's the color of John Stafford's '69 (February '81 HVWs)
Joe Shoeningh (owns Europro in Costa Mesa) had a '69 that was also brown (February '80 HVWs) but it's not Sepia. It's darker.
Marc Tousignant (Kymco Motorsports early-mid '90s) still has the '63 his grandfather bought new. He did it Sepia on polished Empi fives.

To me that's a great later (late '70s, early '80s) Cal Look color. It looks even better without trim on the car.

Looks more like Porsche Olive Green to me.

It's tough to tell by the lighting and manipulation done to the photos. In the mid-day outdoor shots it looks Sepia but in the garage shots it definitely looks like Olive. The interior shot looks really olive too but that could be a function of light temperature. During the daytime the color temperature is about 5,600 Kelvin (almost blue) but during the golden hour the color temperature drops to 3,500K. That renders everything very yellow, hence early twilight shots look very 'golden'.

Either way those colors look like baby shit and I mean that in an endearing way. I love those colors.

Yourīre right itīs hard to tell from the manipulated photos, my guess came from the first one posted by Critter. Maybe someone can enlight us  ;)

Really nice car, the beam is a little to narrow for my taste, but the rest is perfect!

Well if you can't dazzle them with brilliance then just baffle them with bullshit!

If I REALLY wanted to get pedantic I'd say that an 80C or D filter would bring the color temperature back up.  :P

Weren't you just complaining to me about kerning and leading the other day? Isn't there some font with overlapping serifs that you can pick on?  ;D

Thanks for posting up all these awesome pics Fabs!!! That biscuit interior is nice. I would've never chose those interior colors to go with that paint color, but it's unique and does goes well together. I definitely like it better with the T-bars and dual QPs.

Call a typeface collision whatever you want but I'll call it an accidental glyph. Everyone knows that a ligature is an intentional glyph made for aesthetic reasons. Sheesh!  :P

If it pisses people off, it must be right. At least that's how I view it. Only things I'd change if it were mine... lose the white lettered tires, paint the mufflers black, return the front beam back to its proper width... then enjoy the car.

Good looking car, overall. Long as the owner's happy, that's all that really matters.

Yea nice car    Just like the OG  StDragn the color is odd enough to be noticed but not look out of sort.  I especially like the interior. I like it when somebody is bold enough to put together a color combo like this and make it work. It shows you probably had a vision of how you wanted it to turn out.
Very cool car Relic.

Cool car, like the changes between full bumpers and t-bars. The colour is great (I agree with Ben, different enough to notice, but not to look our of place - cool blog by the way Ben).

Shame about the negative posting, but when monkeyboy's car does come out, I am sure there will be mixed reviews/opinions.
