Title: Agave Green '67 Cal Looker
Post by: BossHogg76 on April 17, 2013, 07:54:28 am
Well what am I about to get myself into?? After deliberating for ages I decided to take on this project.  I needed something to do between hitches as the days of playing and coaching rugby are long gone. So the car is a '67 California import, brought into the country via the Russel @ The VW Gasser Garage. The plans are to create a Cal Looker, current thinking is Sea Blue, on Flat Four Enkei 5 spokes, CSP front discs, a pile of other things, maybe a red interior (not sure on that yet).

So yesterday I headed up to Old Meldrum, truck filled with engine bits to hand over to Richie to get that built up....been working on that for a while now and will be good to see that come to fruition. Money was handed over and I left with the '67 a NOS replacement parcel shelf and the nervous feeling that I may have gone in over my head here  :D

Garage prepped for new arrival

Current car waits for garage buddy to arrive

So a short trip home, with John driving the '67 down in the back of his egg on the windiest day for a while, we eventually got home and unloaded it.

Power cuts due to the wind stopped me firing straight in, as I had to try and sort out the house alarm, which had decided to have a mind of it's own during the power cuts and Sarah was about to go mental.

However by 9pm the following had happened.

Tar Boards removed from engine bay, car came with engine out.

End of the night

So far I'm pleasantly pleased, wing bolts have come out easily, as I've knocked off the underseal factory fresh metal is uncovered. When I removed the running boards the metal behind was fresh and still with the factory applied paint. Work i know it needs, is replace the rear parcel shelf, sort out the surface rust, straighten the wings, fill in the speaker holes in the boot....and other stuff I haven't yet found. The plan now is to strip it down and send it to the blasters.

Best get on with it, hadn't I :D

Thanks 58Blitz  :)

Well my post work insomnia hit, so instead of lying in bed I headed to the garage before a trip away with the missus.
So speedo, fuel tank, glove box, rear arches and windows removed, that's going to be it for about 5-6 days, enforced break for pub and restaurant time   ;D

Pic time:

One of these days I'll get to put a face to the name when I'm up there.

Yep got it, very pleased, bottom 6" doesn't resemble a teabag held together with filler.

Been looking at that thread and saving pics, I believe arty types would call it a "Mood folder" i have it saved as car porn.

Speaking to Richie can be dangerous, you start off wanting a 1641 but end up with a 2332 turbo.. ;D
Keep the pics coming 8)

I concur with that Kev, one talk and i'm now the owner of a 67......how did that happen????

Right then, I've been a bit lax over the last couple of days, a trip away followed by a stomach bug have slowed me down.

However today I headed into the garage and carried on stripping down, the interior came out, the joyous task of removing all the rock hard seals, and finding that an old skate board can be used to mend the battery area.

Anyway time for the pics.

found this relay under the rear seat. Stupid question but is this standard in a '67 as i don't have one in my '71, appears to be linked to the ignition....maybe  ???

Floor looking a bit holey, new Wolfsburg West heavy duty panels are going to replace the current floors.

That's about it for today.

Right then after proving once again that i shouldn't mix drinks I foolishly decided to split the body from the pan.....a stupid idea, and I'm now fighting the urge to throw up.

So here are the pics saves me typing any more. Tomorrow I'll lower it down and give the garage a clean.

It's going to be blasted at a place in Linlithgow.

First try and get groovy with the kids and get some "scene" points with it's slammed stance.  :P

Then simply remove

Looks like a decent startling point, better than most uk cars. If a pair of pan halves is the worst of it, you've got away lightly!
On an unrelated note, are you close to Linlithgow then? I know the place reasonably well, my aunt lives there.

Well the pan halves and the rear parcel area seem to be the areas that require repair and a few other bits and pieces.

I live up near Dundee, was recommended that place by a fella whose into his Mk2 escort restorations.

A quick update. Whilst I headed back to work for a month, i had made plans for the bugs resto to continue. So the floor pans are now being changed for Wolfsburg West Heavy duty panels. Next in line are the rear body supports and the fuel line to be replaced, whole lot blasted. A new beam will then be fitted, the pan built up so it can roll, and the whole lot sent up to the lovely guys at DTH, so it can be reunited with it's body .....when it's finished at the blasters.

The clutch arm seems to have taken to stick over the years so that will be repaired.

Well things are progressing, I'm busily buying bits and pieces, hopefully next week the pan will be back with me.

The pic is better than my waffle.

Well I may as well keep updating this as a log of my work.....or at the moment other peoples work. I swear I'll be on the spanners soon.  ;D

Currently the floor pan halves have been replaced as shown in previous posts, a new stainless steel fuel line has been put in and a 2" Titan engineering narrowed beam fitted. Hopefully DTH should have it in a couple of weeks, to be reunited with the body

Hi Kev

The body is "coming along" the guy does stainless steel blasting for food companies, and with some of them starting their summer shut downs he's been snowed under, so mine has been pushed back a bit.

Hopefully will be done in the next 2 weeks, and should be primed.

Good craic at EBI ?

Time for another little update, almost feel like a fraud as everyone else is doing the work and I'm just doing the project managing bit. The pan is coming along, and hopefully should be up north in the next few weeks. The body has now been blasted as today was delivered to DTH for the next phase of work. I'll let the pics do the talking:

Project is come'n together nicely !! Do your self a favor and dig all the foam in the bottom of the C pillars, Its what trapped moisture in. And if you do not, You will never stop the blasting material from working loose and dropping down in the carb area's.

the foam in the bottom of the C pillars, Its what trapped moisture in.

Those nasty little pillows . . . take a drive on a cool night and let them warm up, then they will actually cause condensation to form on that tender, un-painted sheet metal inside your C-pillars . . . little buggers!

More progress, just waiting on shortened front leafs, then it's back up North. One fly in the ointment is that the delivery driver has just gone on 2 weeks holiday.. :( .

Thanks to the inspiration in the colours thread I'm now down to 2 colours, Agave Green or Polaris Silver....green is currently winning.

Well the very day I get out to work, I got these pics. I've had worse first days back at work to be fair  ;D. So the next jobs include (in no particular order): Fitting the lowered spindles, and CSP discs on the front. Rebuild the rear drums, run the new brake lines,  Soundproof the pan, have DTH stonechip the framehead and underneath, before putting another coat of black on. Only another 28 days to go before i can get back to it  ::)  ;D

Right then, I've been able to get my hands onto the bug, after a few set backs due to poor project managing on my behalf I eventually managed to get the front brakes fitted. Which meant the wheels could be fitted, which then meant the chassis could meet the body for the first time since they had been separated about 5 months ago.

Fingers were firmly crossed, which stopped me helping with the actually lifting... :D but without my help everything dropped into place and the holes lined up. Wheels and tyres fitted under the arches which was a worry of mine and things are moving in the right direction. Next is sort out a leak, change some mounts and bushes for rubber ones, plumb in the brakes, sound proof the pan.

Thanks Kev

Motor is the one that was going to go into the red one.

The motor is going to be a 1915cc based on a new CB performance case with Las Banditos heads, Scat C25 cam and 44 IDF's. It's currently being built by Richie Webb.

You don't happen to have a Near Side OEM rear wing laying around do you? You know hidden under a bunch of keys or behind the sofa?  ;D

Sounds like the same spec motor Richie suggested for me :D
He didnt get you to go turbo then? ;D

Lol, turbo was never mentioned, mind I started the engine way before I got into this project.

Anyway, Mini..update time. After buying some replacement quarter lights (vent windows) I decided to fit new seals and generally spruce them up. So like a fool who has no idea what he's letting himself in for I stripped down the frames. Which gave me 4 frames of differing quality, handily I managed to find 2 windows with matching etching.....which was nice

So it was out with the emery cloth and paint. a rub down and blast of under coat and black, and I had this.

Then my nightmare began, fitting the rubbers  >:( a few hours of wrestling, cutting, shaving rubber, hair dryer (don't tell the wife) and I got to here

However perseverance, a bottle of beer and eventually I got to here..I still need to get the hair dryer out and sort out a couple of ripples, also a need to improve the closing on one, but that's a job for after this next stint at work :(

Well I head back to work..BOOOO, but the work on the project continues Hooray!!!.  Just made sure on the colour and Jerry reinforced my choice of green.

Then he sent pics of the prep...that made me very happy!!. Then I realised I was at work for at least another 3 weeks, and wouldn't see it for a while boo.

So have some pics folks, courtesy of the sharpest paint gun in Tillicoultry and soon the world.

A few more pics of the prep, lovely neat seam sealing, everytime i've done it it's like a kid with chewing gun has been let loose on the car. So fingers crossed into primer this week. You can see Jerrys new paint booth in the background, wonder if mine will be the first one through it.

Right then, back home from work and this week looks to be an exciting one. Jerry has been working away and the body is back in the booth for another coat of primer......then it's colour time. Fingers crossed this weekend could see it in colour and back on it's floor plan.

In other news, a very generous customer of DTH's has donated his rear day moulding wings to let the project carry on. Thankfully Richie has some new day mouldings coming in, so these can be returned asap. So thanks all round.

Have some pics,

and thanks to VW Gasser Garage, I now have a set of '67 front seats, so time to get those stripped, painted and trimmed....well maybe in January, it's been an expensive 8 months  ;D

A little update from this morning, second primer coat on and half rubbed down. Tomorrow colour? maybe!!

Well exciting times...for me at least.

Body now in paint, really chuffed to get to this stage a testament to a lot of peoples hard work.

So some flatting to do, then on with the lacquer. Then there's the bonnet, deck lid doors to do, but still moving in the right direction  ;D

Right then whilst I'm currently slurping on Berliner Pilsner and Gluhwein, whilst shovelling bratwurst down my neck at an indecent rate, work continues in my absence. As shown in the pics below. The problem with all this, is that when i get back it's back to me to bolt it back together and not chip and mark the paint.  :o

Anyway enjoy the pics, i'm off to see more Christmas markets  ;D

Richie...running? not yet lol, and please don't take the engine back no matter how tempting a bigger crank and cam is, i have to get this finished  ;D

Thanks Kaferboy, comments like yours keep me motivated.

So onto today:

Today was time to get myself calmed down after a stressful night. So into the car and off to DTH, to get some bolting done. A few hours later the windows are in, the doors are fitted, along with the seals (I'm not a fan of seal fitting  ) Then the deck lid went on and before I knew it, it was home time. A pretty damn good way to de-stress.

Thanks guys....Well a small update....before Christmas DTH knocked up this number plate bracket, which is just the right size for both US and Uk plates. A blast of black paint and that will be sorted.

Then on Christmas day another little surprise as my head unit pitched up from Tadpole Radios. For me I think it's a nicer look that the Retrosounds units as it doesn't have a digital display, plus is a period piece...ish :). So couple of speakers under the rear seat and we are away. Though I have a feeling the twin 48's will over power it

Right then big update, body colour all finished by Jerry at Deadline Paint...awesome job I'm sure you'll agree :). Wings, Bonnet, Side windows fitted by DTH and I bet Jerry popped through to help :), and then a number plate bracket made up, so I can chop and change between USA and Brit style plates. Anyway enough of my chat, best you see the pics :D

The guys at DTH and Deadline Paint got the engine in..how much work Jerry did in this process I'm not sure...but he takes a mean picture :D.

You will notice from the pics the Flat Four valve covers didn't make it, too fat....like the owner. :(

Anyway pic time and in two weeks it's home time for me, and if I get it all sorted it should be in my garage..maybe ish, kind of, and I can tinker to my hearts content to get it finished

Well work is over for another month, and as I have to drive past DTH and Deadline to get home, (ok a little detour, but the wife didn't mind) it would have been rude not to drop in.

So here we have the tinware Jerry painted and sent pics from the other night, and DTH in the process of fitting them.

The bugs life at DTH is coming to an end and come tuesday it'll be back into my garage and I can start on the fuel system and come the 21st, putting the wiring loom in.

Rob

Looking excellent, very impressed, cant wait to see it in the flesh "so to speak"

One point to note..... be careful with thoses front tyres/ride hide because my sons car looked the same until the first pot hole then both wings needed repainted as the edges got squashed, we ended up putting a narrower beam on to avoid and further problems..

good luck

Right then the last couple of days have been fun, a quick visit to DTH to fit the rear popouts before it was moved, and also ended up fitting a the bonnet lock, handle etc. A few adjustments are needed as the bonnet is now locked shut :o

Anyway, a few other bits a pieces were done, horn grills fitted, badge, washer bottle etc. Then it was home time.

So i left it looking like this:

Then it was home time and create space in the garage.

This morning I was up stupidly early for a day off, and after pacing around the following happened.

So the garage is looking rather full and I have a pile of work to complete in the next 3 weeks....can't wait

DTH......You soft sod  ;D

Thanks 56Blitz, slowly getting there

Now that the project is in my garage progress isn't quite as fast, but I'm having fun :D. Wiring for the MSD system is ongoing, and the rear fuel system is done. Tomorrow when the deliveries arrive, it's onto the front end and hopefully all the fuel system will be plumbed in. The loom should be here at the end of the week and it's onto that bundle of fun :(.

Thanks CallookPastel and Wolfswest, much appreciated.

Well soon be time to head back to work, been quite a successful time off, the car is back in my garage and I'm chuffed to bits with it.

So I had to do some work on it, started on the fuel system, and a few other bits. Wiring next time I'm home, hopefully the interior and finishing things up, steering geometry, brakes bled etc and then fire her up.

Anyway have some pics:

Thanks Stripped66, Hanz this month at home it will be fired up  ;D

Another month at work nailed, so headed home today with the goal of finishing this off.

When I was away there was a few things going on, a few parts bought and the interior in progress. However only one pic surfaced from the guys in Tilli, which gave little away, but it did show Scot hard at work.

So I arranged to drop in on the way home from the airport, and picked up the front seats and a few bits from Deadline that had been painted.

The seats look great in my opinion, they can live in the kitchen until I get the wiring and carpet fitted.

Meanwhile at home the loom was waiting, along with a few other bits to be fitted, first I need to sleep, as I've just struggled to spell "first"  :(

Typically just as i get home new photos surface..i swear it's a conspiracy too keep my in the dark  ;D. Pics from start to finish of the front seats

Thanks Kaferboy

well after a few issues...of an electrical kind, and another issue due to HMRC feeling it necessary to hold my parcels up for what felt like ever, and then a much needed holiday. I came back and fired into wiring the car, with the aim of getting enough done to allow it to be fired up before heading to work. :)

So after a manic saturday, I got enough of the loom in to allow a quick visit to halfords on sunday for some emergency parts, meet DTH and get this sucker fired up.

After finding a couple of wiring faults due to me putting wires into the wrong connectors , and finding the another lead had disconnected when I was playing with the MSD. We (DTH) got it fired up, some more tinkering was needed, and more fuel and it was running like a champ :D.

Anyway I've blethered on far to long, here's a short clip.

Double update today, as I was reinvigorated due to the engine being fired up, I decided to fit some more carpet and the rear seats which DTH delivered when he came up. I'm going to have to pull it back out to fit the rear panels, but I just had too see what they looked like.  :D

Not the best pics, but you get the idea:

Right then, work packed me off home 5 days early  ;D So I landed home on saturday, and i was straight into the garage. Now I had just spent the last 48 hours doing a 12 hour shift, then immediately travelled back home from the Congo. So i was a little tired when i started work on the bug, and decided to make sure it still started and ran ok..An hour later and a garage flooded with fuel, it was then I remembered that I had left the carb covers on....FFS. Oddly enough it started up a treat once they were removed.  ::)

So a quick rummage through some stuff, from my previous employment in the Womens Auxillary Balloon Corps, found me a set of pennants off a Typhoon jet, and it was like i was back on the flight line.

So wiring is the main thing to get done, and thankfully apart from the brake lights I'm done. Out with the multi-meter tomorrow to see where the problem is.

Then it was on to fitting some more of the interior, and we're getting very close.

Oh and the front has to come up a bit, as I'll never get over the speed humps on my estate, which means i'll need to fit some longer shocks  >:(

Thanking you guys

Just a little update, one section is complete....well once I change the bolts for the tank clamps. The Fast Fab ones are a little short I think because I'm running the foam gasket between the tank and the body.

Another job was to lift the front to a reasonable height, it might have looked cool that nose down, but the wings were in danger of tyre rub and the spare wheel well would have copped a battering on the speed bumps, which ain't my thing. However to do this i needed to fit new shocks, as the KYB ones on were far too short. I think I could open a parts shop after this project is finished, as i think at some point I've had two of everything  :)

Ok this weekend has been one I've been waiting for,... for a long time. There have been a few trials and tribulations this week, including a quick engine (with DTH and Jerry) removal to sort out the clutch. Then massive disappointment when I thought it had all gone wrong.

However Richie Webb stepped in with some technical help and suddenly there was sunshine in what had been, up until this point, and pretty disappointing weekend. I love that man, i really do  ;D

So after having to wait to re-charge the battery the following happened :D

Well 14 months after I bought a project, I now have a road legal car.

For the last week my garage has been in turmoil as I've chased electrical faults, clutch and gear box problems, and finally the day before it was due for a Pre-MOT inspection finding the horn had a mind of its own. I eventually with the help of DTH, Deadline, Richie Webb and Speedy Jim got it all sorted.

Nervously I drove it down to the garage and left it, whilst I took the cowards option of 2 days on the piss in Glasgow whilst the inspection and MOT was carried out.

Today I got the news that the bug is road legal :D

So thanks for reading, it's been a great ride and now I can't wait to get out driving. Catch Y'all later

Have some pics to finish

Thanks Russell, it would be the most excitement Forfar has seen in years. ;)

Right then, in other news after swapping the gearbox for one with short axles, it was time to drive  ;D. Quite quickly I ticked over the magic 200 miles so it was time for an oil change. Whilst everything was drained it took the opportunity to change the filter head and also change the lines and fittings.

I also fitted my freshly bought EMPI GTV steering wheel to replace the flat four replica.

After ordering a new Dogback Performance beam, it was painted by Jerry at Deadline and now i had no excuse not to fit it.

Well no excuse apart from it was cold, however today i found some motivation, put the car on some trolleys and span it round in the garage to get some more room and got to it.

A few hours later i had the old beam out, (after i successfully pinned myself to the floor with it  ::) )

Anyway have some pics, tomorrow i should have most of it back together...maybe  :D

With the Cal Look Drag Day rapidly approaching and with me only having 2 weeks at home before then, I have a list of jobs to be done......so no panic  :o

The Car is still tits up on sticks in the garage, so that's the first job to do when i get back. The next is to get it down to DTH and Deadline for it to be prepped, for prepped read, fix all the Stuff i've done wrong.  :P

Whilst it is there, this will be fitted. A quick buy from RJ Volksperformance, I think it was up about an hour before I dived in to get it...the only concern I have, is that it will disappear and end up on DTHs '67 painted Beige

Well I could be accused of being very slack in getting the front of my car rebuilt. In my defence we have had a BossHogg Jnr who has taken up my time (and he's great  ;D )

So this week i pulled my finger out and got it back together, just in time to enjoy some sun and find out if the issues i had were resolved.

In other news, Ross Hastie and Jerry at Deadline paint hatched a plan and produced a lovely sign for my garage....yes there is an apostrophe missing...I can barely spell so i think it's fine  ;D

Today the weathers been great so it was time to run down to Tillicoultry to drop the car off for a going over and paint. It was an eventful trip after almost being run off the road by the one member of a Subaru club heading to Crail.

The rest of the drive was great, a few blats to clear the IDAs....that's my excuse officer ;)

DTH was busy when i got there, plenty of projects on the go, and DTH's Ex-DKP car was there, so a quick photo and off home.

Well this summer has been a great one, starting off with a trip to the Cal Look Drag day, and shock upon shock my wife joining me at a few car shows....apparently it's good family time and it means i can indoctrinate my son (6months old) with the ways of aircooled motors.

In other news some modifications have been made, the last one being a cab deck lid. So time for a bit of photo whoring. My best aircooled trophy from a local show and the new deck lid fitted.

After enjoying a summer of putting some miles on the clock, this winter has been used to sort out a few annoying bits and pieces.

First up was the glovebox, the plastic after market one, had to be adapted to fit and caused a problem with the hinges which caused the lid to contact the dash when fully open.
Wolfsburg West have a new replacement and it fits a treat.

The second bit of work was to replace the windscreen wiper spindles. nice easy job and now my wipers shouldn't get lost after doing a few wipes.

Last bit for the moment is a set of Jaycee stacks and filters, with hopefully a few road trips planned this year, hopefully these will be a wise investment

Another winter update, I thought it was time to upgrade the shocks. Chatting to DTH he recommend trying Protech, so a few phone calls later a chat on what I was after, a set was ordered and winging its way to me. Whilst doing this i took the chance to swap the old shock bolts for some plated ones. Anyway here's some pics, just need some salt free roads to see how the go and do some adjustments.

A little update, after last years trip to the Cal Look Drag day i came away thinking that maybe a little bit more power wouldn't be a bad thing

So this year the 1915cc unit came out and was rebuilt by Richie to 2276cc with Steve Timms heads and a new cam, crank and fly wheel (I can't remember which one at the moment) Then it was a little drive to meet Richie, then up to DTH in Scotland. The engine was fitted along with a new external oil cooler and it was time to trailer it home to finish off.

So now it's time to run it in, and have some fun

Well after a great summer where I did more miles and shows than ever before the car was running great. However if noticed that the rear suspension was very wallowy in the turns and when parked up it had a tendency to settle low. So as part of the list of winter jobs I decided uprated torsion bars were on the cards. Jo and Richie at RJ Volksperformance provided them and after being woken by my son at 6:30 on a Saturday morning, I decided to get fired into it. There's a few pics below, other jobs on the winter list include plumbing in the external cooler, in preparation for a trip to Le Bug show next year, have a happy Christmas Cal Look guys

Hi Mikko i believe standard 67 bars are 21mm, i think....think these are 28mm. Richie on here is the man to ask as he imported them for me.

Hi Andrew, the shocks have been great, just sent the dimensions off and got them with in 2 weeks i think it was. Initially set them in the middle of damping range, then had a little adjustment after that. The Bump and Rebound versions would be too much for what i needed, but perfect i guess for more performance orientated applications. The other bonus for me is that they do have a full 3 warranty, beyond that they can be sent back for rebuilds if needed.  Hope that helps

Eventually rolled it out of garage and had a little drive round the estate. Think I've ended up with a smidge more rake
and the rear feels a lot stiffer. See what it's like in the summer and do some shock adjusting

A minor update, during the build I forgot, or more than likely ignored the good advice for DTH (yes I’m an idiot)
to put the mounting points in for a mid-mount. So rather than cause damage by rectifying this with fire, when I
saw that RJvolksperformanxe had some Fast Fad mid-mound in stock that brace against the frame using urethane
bushes I decided this was for me.

So jack up replace the studs with some longer ones and all is good.

Just a little update, with summer approaching and a trip the Le Bug show planned i thought i'd eventually plumb in an external oil cooler.

Initially i bought a CSP thermostat, lovely cnc'd piece of kit, but i struggled to find somewhere to mount it, so i did some more research
and came across Improved racing. They produce a filter head with built in thermostat, so after gulping at the price, hiding the subsequent
invoice i bought one.

A quick mod to my existing mount, some paint and running some lines it was done. It seems to be working fine, will need to wire in my temp
gauge to double check.

Anyway here are some pics

It's spring time!!! Which means a rush to get all those jobs I said I'd do over the winter completed.

First was fitting a couple more gauges. Since I now like going to European shows I thought adding a couple of extra gauges to keep my eye on things would be useful. So instead of having the dash butchered I decided to put them in the glove box.

Which resulted in some chopping shaping and then this

Video link to gauge start up.

Next on the list is the new CSP rear brakes, and a set of OG sprint stars....all to be completed before EBI

That looks awesome! If you ever decide that you want to change your dash up a bit more, FastFab makes a 3 hole gauge panel that fits in a stock radio hole, so the gauges are technically in front of the dash. It's not the cheapest thing in the world, but I really like the way it looks, and it's a very well made piece. The black insert panel can also be removed and painted, if you want it to blend in a little more.

Thanks Andrew they do look good and i did have a look at those, but i'd just bought the Blaupunkt radio so wanted to keep that on show and hide the gauges.

Plus it gave me an excuse to hide in the garage for a couple of weekends  ;D

Nothing wrong with an excuse to tinker around a bit! The main reason I did this one is that I didn't have any radio for my car, only a stock block-off plate. The Blaupunkt radio is definitely worth showing off! The rest of your car looks awesome, too!

With EBI looming and wanting to make a few changes i decided that small stuff would be the best idea....So it was time for a CSP VW rear brake kit and new wheels.

The other project has been looking for new wheels, after much chin scratching i decided on a some Sprintstars, ended finding a set in Belgium which i had imported, then refurbed by Dave Ward, and now they're fitted.

Time to blow the dust off this thread. After a year on Sprints it's back to the Enkeis, opinions are varied on which looks best.. I prefer the Enkeis, so the Sprints have headed to the loft.

Another year and another round of upgrades, the gearbox despite only being rebuilt 5000 miles ago was goosed. On taking it apart fourth gear had been fitted with a hammer, and was shimmed incorrectly. The selector fork had, had the tips remetalled with a blob of weld on each.. Ruining the hardening and they were wearing badly. Oh and reverse was goosed.

So while that was being done, new Gene Berg Grooved venturis and a saco pulley kit were fitted. The result is startling to be fair, it's a lot smoother and much inclined to rev to its redline. Should have followed Richies advice and upped the vent size after I'd run it in  :D

After many years avoiding talk of a magazine feature, I gave in this year. It have to say that I was utterly stoked to be featured in the Volksworld Cal Look Edition and to end up as one of centre  fold pull outs. It also debuted with the third set of wheels i've had on it. A set of flat four Brms....i grudgingly admit that it looks it's best on these.

This year I have EBI on the cards and hopefully a trip to Santa Pod with the goal of getting into the 13s. Stay groovy folks

I couldn't believe its been that long between finished and featured! I actually only read that issue this week - my subscription is delivered to my dad, and he reads them first, but worth the wait!

Glad you liked the read. It took a bit of convincing to do the feature, as so many awesome cars have been in it. But I'm proud it's been in, been the centrefold and people like it  :)

It's been a while since I've done an update on this thread. The 67 is still running like a champ, last year was EBI and i managed to get to and from Chimay as well as a couple of trips down the strip, nothing fast but it was fun.

The end of 2022 saw the delivery of my new interior, cut down Porsche 914 seats, in fat biscuit, the biscuits are in perforated leather with the main in the same leather but not perforated. I was fitted the painted head light rings that I had lying around.

Moving into 2023 with nothing really planned my son started to take an interest in the bug, so it was early in June it was an ideal opportunity to load the bug up and head to Melbourne Raceway near York UK. I only managed a run as Street Week was on and the lad got bored after about 4 hours. Hopefully we can have a bit more fun in August.

Being the Imelda Marcos of the Cal Look scene, when a set of centrelines I previously owned came up for sale, I thought they'd be perfect for my MH Dots.
